POSITION INFO:
A well-established fiduciary and corporate services organisation is seeking a diligent and experienced Compliance Officer to join their Cape Town office. The successful individual will play a pivotal role in ensuring that both local and global operations adhere to legal, regulatory and internal governance standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and manage the compliance framework for South African and associated offshore operations.
• Monitor and interpret regulatory changes (e.g., POPIA, FICA, AML, FATCA/CRS) and ensure appropriate implementation.
• Conduct risk assessments and compliance audits; identify non-compliance issues and recommend corrective actions.
• Develop, implement and maintain internal compliance policies and procedures in line with industry best practice.
• Collaborate with legal, operations, finance and others to ensure governance, controls and reporting mechanisms are robust.
• Oversee onboarding of new clients or entities, ensuring compliance checks, due diligence and documentation are completed.
• Manage regulatory filings, licence renewals, registers and relationships with regulators.
• Provide training and support to staff on compliance matters; promote a culture of integrity and governance.
• Prepare periodic compliance reports and present findings to senior management.
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Risk, Business Administration or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a compliance, regulatory or governance role (preferably in fiduciary/trust/corporate services).
• Professional compliance certification or qualification recognised in South Africa (e.g., CAMS, CRCM, or equivalent).
• Deep knowledge of South African and offshore regulatory regimes (companies/trusts/funds) and financial crime prevention frameworks.
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English; Afrikaans will be advantageous.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• A valid driver’s licence and willingness to attend periodic on-site meetings and offshore jurisdiction interactions.
