Control & Instrumentation Technician

SUMMARY:
Control & Instrumentation Technician required to undertake specification, design, estimation, service and commissioning for control & instrumentation on projects. Required to assist in Technical support. Interact with customers and other departments.

POSITION INFO:

Tendering and quoting on possible work and customer visits and interaction to understand requirements and find good engineered solutions.

Outline of Job Responsibilities

• Project Development from concept to completion.
• Electrcial Designs for projects, namely drawings, diagrams and all related documentation.
• Implement and practise good quality control.
• Document control both administrative, service and project related.
• To undertake all varieties of projects and services, in terms of size and technical complexity.
• Able to do self research on technical issues and new technologies.
• Technical assistants to younger engineers and technicians.
• Quotations and tenders within the department, and as support function to contract pursuits, business development and sales.
• Interact with customers on behalf of the company in professional manner.
• Able to conceive good practical and technical solutions to customers.
• Ablility to solve technicial issues and fault find through problems.
• Onsite commissioning of systems, as and if required.
• Required to travel.
• Willing to work overtime if required.
• Dedication to deadlines and self-management of tasks and functions.
• Undertake site supervision, on any size projects.
• Display professionalism and always hold the company in good stead with customers or in general public.
• Implementation and understanding of automation, drives and instrumentation.
• Design concept systems within the company standards and requirements, to fulfill the customer requirements.
• Comply with all the companies policies and procedures in terms of SHEQ and ISO.

 

System experience, requirements and developments:

• Automation systems knowledge (in ABB, Siemens, Rockwell would be preferable) will be required. Design, Fault finding, implementation and commissioning of such systems.
• Drives systems knowledge (in ABB preferable) would be required. Design, fault finding, repair, implementation and commissioning.
• Gain and implement knowledge on ABB products focused on Drives, Instrumentation and Automation so as to be able to technically support departments and customers in design, development and implementation.
• Must manage own projects (or at least in part managed own projects if part of larger project managed through projects department).
• Must exercise good development cycle knowledge, practises and implementation.
• Possible travel may be required, within Africa and other countries, thus valid passport and such documentation will be required or must be maintained in accordance of company policies.
• Development of the companies customer base through drive service and technical support.
• 3 - 4 years experience in a similar roles
• National Diploma Electrical / B-Tech degree Electrical / BSc Electrical - Electrical
