A Data Manager (12 Months Fixed Term Contract) vacancy is available at our Client, Wits Health Consortium in Sandringham, Johannesburg

POSITION INFO:

Background

Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited ("WHC") is a wholly-owned Company of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa) under its Faculty of Health Sciences. WHC provides Faculty with a legal framework within which to operate the research and other activities necessary to support its academic objectives. In addition, WHC offers a range of products and services to the Academics conducting these activities in order to assist with the management thereof.

Main purpose of the job:

• To design, implement and ensure quality of regular data tasks for surveillance systems and ongoing evaluation projects.

Location:

• Sandringham, Johannesburg

Key performance areas

• Designing and maintaining databases for data collection and collation
• Routine reporting of surveillance systems and project data collection
• Performing quality control checks to ensure reliability of datasets and performance of data platforms
• Drafting and maintaining SOPs for data-related tasks
• Assisting team with ad hoc data queries
• Liaising with external consultants and data analysts at the NICD Surveillance Data Warehouse
• Clearly communicating data summaries, policies and reports to team members

Required minimum education and training

• MSc in Information Technology, Database Management, Statistics, Computer Science or another related field OR
• Bachelor’s degree in related field and extensive relevant work experience

Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities

• Highly proficient in STATA or equivalent statistical software package
• Data management experience with open source platforms such as REDCap or similar
• Experience with MicroStrategy and/or data dashboard design desired
• Strong work ethic, resourcefulness, and ability to learn and execute tasks with precision
• Understanding of and commitment to version control and naming conventions
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English

Required minimum work experience

• 5+ Years’ professional experience working in data management, preferably in a Public Health OR an MSc and some professional experience
