POSITION INFO:
Job Purpose
To source, gather, scope, map, and analyse statistical and visual/spatial data to respond effectively to the organisation’s operational and analytical data requirements.
Education, Skills, and Experience
- A degree in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Business Information Systems/Analysis, Finance, or a related field.
- SAS and/or SQL Server certification.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in data analysis, data mining, modelling, or coding.
- Strong quantitative skills with formal training in statistics, data mining, and model development.
- Experience in financial and transactional data analysis.
- Knowledge of financial flows and illicit financial activity is an advantage.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to engage professionally and confidently with stakeholders at various organisational levels.
- Demonstrated presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Power BI and other business intelligence and data visualisation tools.
- Strong programming and analytical skills.
Key Performance Areas
Data Engagement and Requirements Analysis
- Engage with business teams to understand project requirements and operational data needs.
- Identify and develop new information sources by establishing relationships with potential data providers.
- Design and maintain custom management tools to support efficient and accurate information gathering.
Database Programming and Development
- Perform database programming for new and existing projects, including writing scripts, stored procedures, and functions.
- Assist with planning and implementing data integration and data migration activities.
- Provide technical input into database architectural discussions to support scalable and reliable systems.
Data Quality Assurance and Problem Resolution
- Conduct quality assurance testing to ensure data integrity, accuracy, and reliability.
- Resolve database issues, queries, and error reports in a timely and accurate manner.
- Assist in identifying and implementing improvements to enhance database performance, reliability, and stability.
Data Analysis and Reporting
- Design analytical models to detect anomalies and trends in data.
- Apply diagnostic and analytical skills to identify relationships and causal links within datasets.
- Prepare analytical reports containing findings, insights, and conclusions to support planning and decision-making.
Data Management and Documentation
- Maintain accurate and complete database and analytical documentation.
- Contribute to the development of document templates that support data validation, auditability, and compliance.
- Conduct data audits to ensure the quality and integrity of raw and processed data.
Big Data Evaluation and Analytical Support
- Search, mine, and analyse large datasets to extract relevant information for operational and investigative purposes.
- Provide analytical support through data extraction and preliminary statistical analysis.
- Compile user-friendly reports by translating technical findings into clear, understandable outputs.
Stakeholder Engagement and Communication
- Prepare and deliver briefings and presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure approved information is disseminated in line with agreed timelines and specifications.
Planning and Execution
- Plan and manage personal work activities to meet agreed deliverables and deadlines.
- Perform additional data analysis or related duties as required by management.
