Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and professional Debt Collector to manage outstanding accounts and ensure timely recovery of arrears. The successful candidate must be proactive and will play a key role in maintaining cash flow by following up on overdue rental payments and related property accounts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contact tenants regarding overdue accounts via phone, email, and written communication
- Negotiate payment arrangements and follow up on commitments
- Issue Letter of Demand
- Maintain accurate records of all communication and payment agreements
- Monitor accounts to identify outstanding debts and escalate where necessary
- Prepare reports on collection activities and outstanding balances
- Liaise with property managers regarding tenant accounts
- Handle sensitive situations professionally while maintaining positive relationships
- Ensure compliance with relevant South African debt collection regulations and company policies
Minimum Requirements:
- Fluent in Afrikaans and English
- Previous experience in debt collection, credit control, or accounts receivable (preferably in property or rental environment)
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Basic accounting or bookkeeping knowledge
- Basic Knowledge of TPN Credit bureau
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
- Proficiency in Pastel and Pastel Debtors management
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a half-day role
- High level of integrity and professionalism
Advantageous:
- Knowledge of property management systems
- Familiarity with South African debt collection laws and processes
Working Hours:
- Half-day position (e.g., mornings – to be agreed)
