SUMMARY:
To ensure the protection and management of the declared Astronomy Advantage Areas, in terms of the Astronomy Geographic Advantage Act No.21 of 2007 (AGA Act), specifically for the successful performance of the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) and the Southern African Large Telescope (SALT).

JOB DESCRIPTION

Management of the declared radio and optical Astronomy Advantage Areas

  •  Develop and maintain a permanent register of all the affected and interested parties of the declared Astronomy Advantage Areas.
  • Develop the declaration of certain areas in the Northern Cape as the core, central & coordinated radio and optical Astronomy Advantage Areas. 
  • Facilitate the publication of the declaration of certain areas of the Northern Cape as the core, central and coordinated radio and optical Astronomy Advantage Areas.

 

Protection of the declared Astronomy Advantage Areas from detrimental optical and radio interferences

  • Verify and confirm the radio frequency interferences and power levels that are produced by a signal transmitted from any radio station within the declared radio Astronomy Advantage Areas as produced by the technical team. 
  • Review regulations of the compliance assessment reports, and permitting conditions, in accordance with regulations for the protection of astronomy advantage areas declared in terms of the Astronomy Geographic Advantage Act

 

Management of standards and threshold levels for authorisations and prohibitions relating to the radio frequency interference management

  • Verify   technical report based on the technical analysis produced by the technical team and make recommendations for approval
  • Monitor that Permit holders continue to comply with the Permit conditions

 

Stakeholder management and relations

  • Constant engagement with interested and affected parties of the declared Astronomy Advantage Areas.
  • Promote awareness to ensure that interested and affected stakeholders to understand the legislation and the regulations

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • NQF level 6 qualification in Science/ Engineering/ Technology / Law. 
  • Minimum 3 years working experience as an Assistant Director/ Middle Management in electronic communications or Astronomy environment
