The Deputy Vice-Chancellor [DVC] is a member of the executive of the University and actively supports the Vice-Chancellor [VC] in the strategic leadership and management of the University by leading and participating in the University-wide decision-making processes, towards achieving the strategic objectives of the institution in line with Vision 2030 and beyond. Reporting directly to the VC, the primary responsibility of this job is to provide strategic and executive leadership to advance and elevate the University’s research and innovation excellence agenda, including internationalisation. The incumbent will be responsible for the leadership and management of the portfolios of Research, Innovation, Internationalisation, and Library and Information services, to advance the University’s vision, mission, and strategies considering the multi-campus nature of the institution and its national imperatives. Following the name-change of the University to Nelson Mandela University, our intention is to further consolidate our scholarly footprint nationally, continentally, and globally, and to sharpen the social justice perspective of our work. The critical role of the DVC in this portfolio cannot be over-emphasised enough. |
