A Vacancy exists for a Designated Firearm Officer in theâ¯Guarding Division based in Port Elizabeth
The suitable candidate’s main responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to, the following:â¯â¯â¯
POSITION INFO:
To ensure that the control systems are in place and to enforce compliance at the respective site. Responsible for the correct and accurate recordkeeping of the firearms and ammunition. Ensuring the competence of all employees in the use and handling of firearms and to sustain their competency. You maintain and sustain your firearm competency for all the types of firearms used at your site. If there are any changes to the type of firearms to your site and you do not have the required competency, you must immediately communicate to the NDFO to amend the new appointment. Maintain all firearm Carrying Officers annual Reg. 21 Firearm training with accredited and approved Training Service Providers. NKP sites must maintain the Reg.21 Training bi-annually. Ensure to file all outcome records from Training Service Providers on the portfolio of the evidence file. Ensure to report all incapacity observations or staff members that are falling the minimum competency requirements to the National DFO. Ensure that control registers for firearms, ammunition, permits and incidents, as prescribed by the NDFO are implemented and utilized. Complete, maintain and manage all required registers daily. Ensure to issue good, serviceable firearms and count all issued ammunition when issuing these items to the approved Firearm Carrying Officers (Applicable if the DFO are issuing firearms and ammunition) Ensure to check the condition of the firearm and count the ammunition when these items are returned after a shift is completed (Applicable if the DFO are issuing firearms and ammunition) Ensure to maintain all valid firearm licenses and that a copy of the license is issued with the firearm to the firearm to the Firearm Carrying Officer. Ensure that all firearms that require repairs are sent to the Gunsmith for repairs. Ensure to communicate all firearms that are unserviceable or no longer required for operational duties to the NDFO. Ensure to complete the CIIV Book for all transfers of firearms and ammunition and to report to the NDFO to update DMS. Ensure any discharges are recorded and immediately reported to the NOC and NDFO, (Includes Warning Shots and Accidental Discharges). If there were fatal injuries\/injuries or damages. It must also be reported to the Legal Department. If any firearms were seized by the SAPS for Ballistics, the report must be submitted to the NDFO within 24 hours. Ensure that the required counseling is arranged and attended, as prescribed by the legislation. Ensure that all lost\/stolen\/unaccounted firearms are reported within 24 hours to the SAPS and NDFO; ensure that proper investigations are done on all lost\/stolen firearms and that the reports are sent to the NDFO. Information regarding Reg. 21 Shoots, SAPS competency and PSIRA must be completed on DMS. DMS must be monitored and maintained accurately by DFO or an additional Admin person that can be identified to load the documents and required information. ⯠â¯Preferred qualifications\/attributes\/skills:⯠⯠Grade 12 or equivalent qualification. PSIRA - Grade C.â¯â¯â¯ Business administration degree\/ courses would be an advantage. Valid SAPS Competency Certificate with the following qualifications: Firearm competencyâ¯in Handgun,â¯Shotgun,â¯Self-loading rifle, Manual Operating Rifle, Machine carbine and knowledge of the Firearms Control Act would be an advantage. 21 Training on Handgun,â¯Shotgun,â¯Self-loading rifle, Manual Operating Rifle, Machine carbine and knowledge of the Firearms Control Act would be an advantage. Experience in dealing with firearms would be an advantage. Quality Control and\/or compliance certification would be an advantage. Relevant experience in a similar position advantageous. Job related Knowledge: Firearm Legislation General Firearms knowledge Firearm Management (administration) Computer Literacy - working knowledge of MS Office Office administration Manual and electronic filing systems The Administrative Person needs to have a good sound knowledge of facts, data capturing and analyzing of information, understanding the rationale behind models, theories and principles for Administrative Duties.
