The role of the Development Manager: Outsourced Business is to manage the technical extension, maintenance and operation of the IT applications that support the companys  Outsourced Business, based in Bellville, Cape Town.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The purpose of the role includes the following:

• Ensure that the portfolio application systems are designed, built, and operated in an effective and efficient manner.
• Ensure technical delivery and operation of IT applications with a specific focus on appropriateness, technical quality, maintainability, performance, and availability.

Primary responsibilities:

The Development Manager: Outsourced Business will provide the following key services:

SOLUTION DELIVERY AND MANAGEMENT:

• Oversee the technical design and evolution of IT solutions for the Outsourced business
• Detailed planning of technical delivery of new applications and application extensions
• Set and ensure compliance with development and solution design standards
• Manage to upgrade existing technology components to remain current with organisation standards
• Plan, select, and implement new technology enablers as needed
• Ensure appropriateness, quality & completeness of solutions
• Build strong partnerships with Business Change Manager, Product Owners, Scrum Masters, other IT Development Managers, and external vendors
• Manage the DevSecOps processes for the portfolio of applications

PRODUCTION SUPPORT:

• Ensure stable and performant production environment for the business
• Manage Security Vulnerabilities identified, including technical upgrades and testing resulting from security vulnerabilities
• Manage fixing of production defects

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT:

• Manage performance and development of all direct reports
• Assist with the growth on performance, capacity, and capability within the team through effective knowledge transfer
• Provide training, mentorship, and leadership to direct and inspire a high-performance team

QUALIFICATIONS

• Relevant B Degree or equivalent work experience
• 5 to 10 years of application development experience
• Experience managing technical staff
• Experienced in dealing with external suppliers and offshore business partners will be advantageous

KNOWLEDGE

• Working knowledge of Agile software delivery methods
• Agile delivery methods, including Scrum at Scale
• DevSecOps

SKILLS

• Technical skills in the following areas
  • Java Standard Edition
  • Spring Boot
  • Camel
  • Hybernate
  • Bamboo
  • BitBucket
  • SOAP web services
  • XML technologies (XML documents, XSD etc)
  • Managing Java applications on Linux / Unix
  • C# and Microsoft IIS experience will be a bonus
  • Excellent decision making & organising skills
