SUMMARY:
The University of Fort Hare seeks to appoint a Director: Research & Innovation
Reporting to the DVC: Research, Partnerships & Innovation, the Director: Research & Innovation provides strategic coordination and operational management of the Research Office as Director, with particular reference to research capacity development, intellectual property management and commercialisation, research collaborations, and research management systems and operations.
POSITION INFO:
The role will be responsible for:
- ensuring that systems and processes within the University are fit for purpose to enable the institution to deliver quality research that meets the requirements of the relevant regulations, legislation and guidelines that inform research.
- providing leadership to the faculty in its objective to be internationally competitive, carrying out research that is world-leading in terms of originality, significance and rigour.
- promoting high standards of research ethics and integrity and practice through the management of the operationalisation and administration of research ethics in the institution as defined in its policies and research protocols; and to ensure the sound administration of matters relating to research, innovation and community engagement ethics.
- supporting research & income generation efforts, working to drive engagement with a broad range of partners from Research Councils to industrial and commercial clients, resulting in increased external income generation.
- identifying & developing potential research & enterprise income sources, promoting these opportunities to relevant colleagues, supporting staff in preparing grant and commercial applications, managing the application/tendering/contracting process and providing post-award support (including on such issues as reporting and auditing).
- enhancing research funding through grant income and commercial sources.
- championing the provision of high-quality teaching, research and scholarly activities within the University, ensuring a stimulating, collegial environment.
- leading, developing and motivating a high performing unit, engendering a culture of excellence, accountability and transparency while ensuring alignment with the University’s Strategic Plan, and will ensure the effective and efficient use of allocated resources.
Minimum requirements
- Doctoral degree
- Minimum of 10 years’ research management experience, of which 5 years are in a senior research management role preferably in the Higher Education Sector
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience of research administration and systems
