Director of Engineering

POSITION INFO:

As a Director of Engineering (working in Bangalore), your key responsibility will be to lead a group of talented engineers and managers, responsible for delivering Control plane protocols software and Forwarding data path software of enterprise campus ethernet switches and IP routers.

Must-Haves:

• Only from Swtiching/routing background with forwarding , control plane, data plane
• Experience and knowledge in some of IP Routing technologies viz. IPv4/IPv6 forwarding, ARP, ND, OSPF, BGP, RIP
• Technical Manager as we expect person to be hands on technically. Ask specifically if he has worked on semiconductor side domain (Marvel, Broadcom chip)
• Experience delivering large projects, and preferably in the switching and routing space
• 15+ years of industry experience, with 5+ years in management
• Fluency in C programming language. While we don’t expect Directors to code, it is critical for management to be hands on to guide the team effectively.
• Experience and knowledge in some of Ethernet Switching technologies viz. Vlan/Mac ethernet packet forwarding, Link aggregation, Spanning Tree, LACP, IGMP/MLD, MacSec, Mac Auth, Dot1.x, ACL etc., SPAN, RSPAN

 

Job Description:

• Experience in Ethernet Switches/ IP Routers- Software Development experience
• Size of team managed: Would be good to have details like team compositions as this role has people management (20+ team which has architects, senior managers etc)
• Project Management experience/Project planning and execution and Type of approached followed
• Hands on experience: Are they still doing the code review, participating in design aspects of software? Details needed
• Anything done on innovation part or any patents you have filed
• Understand customer needs, strategic needs, and competitive landscape. Work with peers in Product Management, Network Packet Processor Vendors, and SW engineering organizations to define, and prioritize the roadmap.
• Work with broader engineering team to plan and deliver new software and features
• Lead transformation of the current software to the next generation OS.
• Participate in architecture, design discussions and reviews.
• Be a good technical soundboard for the team members.
• Identify opportunities for improvements on an ongoing basis and work with the broader teams to get them implemented
• Hire & grow technical talent
• Mentor senior team members
• Experience managing large technical teams (including managers). Experience working with teams across different geographies.
• Experience delivering large projects, and preferably in the switching and routing space.
• Experience and knowledge in some of IP Routing technologies viz. IPv4/IPv6 forwarding, ARP, ND, OSPF, BGP, RIP, PIM, GRE, Vxlan, EVPN, IPSec, IKE, TCP, UDP, ERSPAN etc.
• Work experience with merchant silicon (Marvell, Broadcom etc.)
• Excellent analytical, and problem-solving, programming.
• Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills
