POSITION INFO:
A Dredging and Marine Engineer is a technical specialist responsible for the mechanical, electrical, and operational systems of dredging vessels and maritime equipment. While a Project Manager focuses on high-level timelines and client liaison, the Engineer ensures the actual machinery—including complex pumps, cutters, and propulsion systems—operates at peak efficiency.
Core Responsibilities
- Operational Control: Operate and monitor specialized equipment like cutter suction and jet suction to remove sediment and debris according to precise project depths.
- Technical Maintenance: Direct the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of all engines, hydraulic systems, and ancillary machinery onboard to minimize project downtime.
- Vessel Integrity: Oversee the functionality of internal systems including electrical, navigational, and safety-critical features like hull monitoring.
- Environmental Stewardship: Ensure all operations comply with strict maritime and environmental regulations.
Typical Daily Duties
- Conducting pre-operational inspections of pumps, engines, and dredging instruments.
- Supervising engine room and deck crew during maintenance or equipment repairs.
- Maintaining detailed technical logs regarding fuel consumption, equipment running hours, and repair histories.
Key Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: A Bachelor''''s degree in Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering is typically required.
- Experience: Most roles require 5–7 years of experience specifically in dredging or large-scale marine operations.
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in engine maintenance, hydraulic and electrical systems
- Soft Skills: Strong real-time problem-solving abilities and the capacity to lead multidisciplinary teams in challenging offshore environments.
Salary: 6000 - 7000USD pm plus 500USD pm for daily expenses, accomodation, car and driver, life insurance and medical aid. 2 flights per annum home for 2 weeks break at a time.
