Driver (EC and Crane C32 Operator) (8 months - Limited Duration Contract) - Site Based

SUMMARY:
SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of company vehicles for the transportation of materials, equipment, and passengers. Responsibilities include maintaining vehicle documentation, conducting inspections, reporting defects or incidents, ensuring compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations, supporting basic vehicle maintenance, and, where required, safely operating truck‑mounted crane equipment (Category C32).

REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education:

• Matric (Grade 12)

• EC Driver's license with a valid Public Drivers Permit
• Valid C32 (Truck Mounted Crane) certificate

• Experience of at least three years as a driver in the same category of employment
• Experience in the use of electronic street map navigation systems will be advantageous

•  Ensure that the allocated vehicle is not loaded beyond its designated load capacity.
• Determine the most cost-effective route for every trip.

• Complete all required documentation, inspections, and logbooks about the vehicle and goods handled.

• Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations, applicable standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
• Support and ensure compliance with environmental management.
• Report any situation that is unsafe or unhealthy.

• Drive light, medium, and heavy motor vehicles to transport materials, equipment, and passengers.
• Apply knowledge of commercial driving principles and manoeuvering techniques in challenging conditions, including uneven terrain, heavy traffic, and adverse weather.
• Operate vehicles and equipment in all weather and site conditions.
• Promptly report delays resulting from breakdowns, traffic, or weather conditions.
• Drive to and from designated locations, verify loads, maintain records of duty status, and conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections.

• Inspect vehicles for faults and diagnose potential problems, and report immediately.
• Facilitate preventive maintenance and repairs.
• Inspect the vehicle for possible defects and safe operating conditions before, during, and after trips and submit a written report if applicable at the end of each trip.
• Report all accidents and incidents immediately in terms of the Company vehicle policy.

• Perform all driving duties and any other duties reasonably required to meet operational requirements, as instructed by authorised or designated persons.

• Verify ground conditions and stability before deploying outriggers or support structures.
• Ensure the crane is correctly levelled before lifting operations commence.
• Confirm that all lifting activities are within the crane’s rated capacity.
• Monitor crane control instruments to ensure operational readiness.
• Manoeuver the crane and position the hook to facilitate secure attachment of loads using approved slings, shackles, or chains.
• Observe and comply with hand signals or instructions from the designated assistant responsible for directing load movement.
