Main Purpose of the Role:
Our client, a Global Strategic Management Consulting firm is looking to hire an Economist who will provide outstanding research / economist work in the field of urban and regional development, particularly in response to the question of how to stimulate sustainable economic growth.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Delivering high quality research and analysis on various urban economics topics including patterns in household consumption, mobility, and access to services
- Producing demographic projections for cities and regions, as well as undertaking unique and insightful analysis of settlement patterns in data scarce environments
- Researching current employment/ economic development trends and predicting future economic development trajectories based on key assumptions at the city and regional scale.
- Drafting high-quality policy, economic, financial, business models and institutional analysis to support the delivery of client projects.
- Automating analyses in a manner that allows for easy replication across projects, geographies, and sectors.
- Conducting literature reviews, summarizing material, synthesizing information, analysing content, and bringing added value and insight to the information collated.
- Preparing and delivering with confidence, presentations to capture key findings, project outcomes, and/or project approach.
- Supporting the broader practice as a resource by conducting research, analysis, report writing, or other assistance on projects not related to specialist area if the need arises.
- Actively contributing to new business opportunities and proposal development, which may also include the development of thought-leadership papers.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Must have a Master’s degree in: Economics (with a focus on Labour Economics, Trade, UrbanEconomics, Economic Geography, and/or applied micro-economics, Development), Geography, Quantitative Sociology, Urban & Regional planning, or Public Policy.
3-5 Years experience in working with jobs and growth data in an urban or city-regional context.
- Experience with Python critical is essential; experience with other statistical software packages such as Stata, Matlab, R is an added bonus; additional experiences with Tableau, Power BI or other off-the-shelf analytics software also preferred.
- Experience with mapping software such as QGIS/ ArcPro is also a required; ability to develop plug-ins is an added bonus.
- A track-record of product delivery (reports, presentations, academic papers etc) within Consulting, Advisory or Research Projects.
- Knowledge of tried and tested economics / statistical techniques – input/output analysis, regressions, household survey analysis, population modelling, estimations of future employment, GDP estimation - is required; experience with novel techniques - complexity analysis, Machine Learning - highly advantageous!
- Experience with developing scenarios to understand current trends in employment (unemployment, underemployment, employment by sector), trade (intra-regional and inter-regional trade) at the city / regional level, Economic Impact Assessments, and geospatial analysis (use of open-source geospatial data) is an advantage.
- Full fluency in English
- Ability to work in one of French, Portuguese or Arabic will be a key advantage

- Strong communicator, written and oral skills of a high standard are required.
- Ability to draft clear, concise reports highlighting relevant insights using data insights is a must.
