(EE) Mechanical Engineer with experience working on a Plant, BEng is essential and either studying towards or has completed GCC - Cato Ridge, KZN

Looking for a Technical Master who is passionate about Engineering 

This position is for a "hands on" Mechanical Engineer that wants to remain in a technical role with the potential to eventually become Engineering Manager.  Experience in Welding, furnaces, Pressure equipment, mill cranes, hydraulics, fans, pumps, metallurgy .

On a daily basis they will be dealing with the Maintenance department dealing with fault finding, assisting the maintenance employees, breakdowns, standby, capex projects, writing specs, safety, supplier visits and inspections as examples.

To ensure that mechanical integrity of the plant and compliance to South African Laws and Regulations. Manage projects and plant improvements, drive safety and training of mechanical employees, while ensuring plant availability.

2. Reporting in to this position (designation and level)
• Direct: Mechanical Technicians
• Indirect: Mechanical Maintenance

3. Key responsibilities:
• Ensure plant compliance to OHS Act and take GMR 2.7(a) appointment
• Ensure plant compliance to accepted codes and standards
• Compliance of health, safety, environmental rules and regulations 
• Assist in general training of maintenance employees
• Perform project and contractor management
• Drive safety and housekeeping
• Drive process improvement to benefit the business

4. Budgetary responsibility: 
Assist the company in achieving its budgetary requirements through the selection of the best value for money solution for the organisation and minimising the wastage of resources.

5. Procurement responsibility: 
Follow company Stores and Procurement procedures and ensure that all requirements are accurately specified to ensure the efficient procurement. 
Manage spares stock to ensure minimum risk to the organisation whilst optimising stock levels. Investigating all possible sources of supply to ensure that the best option is chosen and that those procurements adhere to relevant codes and standards.

KEY SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION
6. Qualifications required:
• Minimum academic qualification: BEng / BSc Mechanical Engineering Degree or equivalent (NQF7/8 or 8/10)
• Qualifications as an added advantage: GCC Factories
• Professional registration: Pr.Eng, SAIMechE

7. Experience required:
• Minimum work experience: Completed ECSA approved candidate engineering programme
• Desired work experience: 5 years post qualification experience in Steel or similar heavy industrial

8. Key competencies and skills (Including but not limited too): 
• Strong conformance to safety and legal compliance and people management skills - SANS 347
• Co-compile and execute strategies for improvement on Plants
• Good understanding of company business models
• Process drive for development and Plant improvement
• Continuously improving the availability of the plant
• Technical support to the Plant in general
• Manage, execute and implement capital and operational projects
• Integrate relevant Engineering disciplines
• Training and mentoring of Technicians, candidates and process experts
• Application of good maintenance principles
• Failure and process analyses - Fan/pump failures.
• Assistance with planning and scheduling of the maintenance and Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives/risks.
• General knowledge of rolling of steel and related processes, proportional hydraulics and rotating equipment
• Compiling of detail technical specifications
• Solid knowledge of Mechanical Engineering principles, processes, systems, procedures and practices.

• Proficient in official business language, good written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to communicate efficiently to team members.
• Valid driver’s licence

9. Computer literacy:
• MS Office; 
• SAP (advantageous)
• PLC software (ABB and Siemens mostly) (advantageous)
