EHS Specialist / Manager

SUMMARY:
A well established company in the paint industry requires the above to ensure the company complies with its statutory obligations.

POSITION INFO:

Minimum requirements for the role:

• Qualification in occupational Health and Safety is required.
• A minimum of a National Diploma is a prerequisite.
• Previous experience in a similar role/environment is essential (preferably from the paint industry).
• Previous multi-site experience is ideal.
• Understand the application of the Health and Safety at Work and other legislation relevant to the company’s business.
• Effectively influence those at a senior level.
• Professional in their approach to dealing with issues and employees.
• Strong organisational or administrative skills with attention to detail and a methodical approach.
• Focused on delivering outstanding customer service to internal customers and contractors.
• Strong teamwork skills are essential.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work with a variety of cross-functional team members.
• Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
• Competent in problem solving, team building, planning and decision making
• Must be able to prioritise and have a results-orientated approach.
• Must be pro-active with good problem-solving skills in a dynamic environment.

 The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Internal auditing of EHS processes (MOC, Permits, etc.)
• Process Safety coordinator; Process Hazard Analysis assessments and Process Safety Management (PSI and PSE).
• Permits and licences (Regulatory compliance for national and local government); flammable goods, waste storage and generation, effluent discharge.
• Management of the permit to work system.
• Management of SHEQ integrated management systems.
• EHS purchase requisitions and invoicing.
• Budget management for EHS.
• ACT Project management for EHS.
• EHS team training, including facilitation of SME training.
• Legal register determination and implementation (local, provincial and national regulations differ per BU, per region).
• Management of legal actions taken against- or on behalf of the company with local attorneys.
• Facilitation and implementation on EHS Elements and requirements.
• SEA Projects (OEM risk analysis and PPE assessments as required by the company and their customers, supplier audits for all BU’s (toll manufacturing), Refinish EHS due diligence on acquisition), PC audits and EHS implementation including movement of shops vs legal applicability changes).
• Management of EHS audits (internal and external, customers) including finding closure management.
• Monthly scorecard facilitation and send out to AFOS and EMEA.
• Sustainable development data upload onto company’s system.
• PPE Compliance management (risk assessments, specification and ordering).
• Asbestos compliance management (IH, legal requirements).
• Emergency management (including fire prevention and protection).
• Spill elimination (spill kits and spill assessments).
• Environmental management (legal requirements).
• H&S Reps management and monthly meeting management.
• SHE Files.
• Management of the waste contractor and reporting of monthly statistics.
