ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC ENGINEER - CAPE TOWN (NORTHERN SUBURBS)

SUMMARY:
A vacancy exists in the Package Boiler business unit, for a person who will be responsible for the specification, design, drawing, testing and commissioning of electrical and electronic control systems relating to steam and hot water boilers and ancillary equipment, in accordance with national and international standards and regulations.

CHARACTERISTICS:

• Have a better than average academic record, especially in the fields of Electrical, Instrumentation and Automatic controls.
• Have a good understanding of Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics.
• Have a good understanding of national and international electrical equipment standards & regulations.
• Be able to interact with customers at all levels.
• Have excellent communication skills, both oral and written in English.
• Be proficient in Excel and Word with exposure to AutoCAD Electrical and EPlan.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist with commissioning of package boilers, electrical equipment, controls and instrumentation.
• Estimate and prepare proposals for electrical & instrumentation scope of supply for boiler enquiries.
• Design of boiler controls and instrumentation, preparation of instrument lists, I/O lists, EFD’s, loop drawings, routing diagram, hook-ups, instrumentation specifications, instrument data sheets, instrument calibrations, procurement, design of control philosophies, analogue diagrams, design of PLC cabinets, PLC programming.
• Design or specify motor control centres, motor lists, cable sizing, cable schedules, I/O list, electrical wiring drawings, routing diagram, equipment sizing, equipment selection, equipment specifications, equipment data sheets, procurement.
• Cold and hot commissioning of boilers and combustion equipment, commissioning of fans, pumps, AC variable speed drives, burners, oil & gas systems, control valves, boiler automatic controls tuning and setting up of controls. Operational fault finding of boiler and ancillary equipment control systems.
• Create and maintain bills of materials (BOM’s) on company Material Requirement Planning (MRP) system.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelors’ Degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering (or equivalent.)
• Professional registration with ECSA or in process of being registered (preferred.)

EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum 5 years relevant experience in an industrial control environment.
• Minimum 3 years PLC & DCS programming experience (preferably Schneider Unity Pro software.)
• Minimum 3 years control loop tuning experience.
