EXPAT - AGRICULTURE ENGINEER - IRRIGATION

SUMMARY:
Marromeu Area – Mozambique: A senior candidate with a solid set of skills and experience is required for this two-year fixed term contract, managing a team of 600 people during peak season in central Mozambique. This is a senior management position

POSITION INFO:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Agricultural Engineering diploma/degree
• Mechanical Engineering experience advantageous
• Previous sugarcane irrigation system experience, essential
• Ability to speak some Portuguese advantageous or desire to learn to speak Portuguese
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
• Proven Irrigation and engineering background essential
• Highly computer literate
• Previous sugar cane farming experience
• Strong leadership skills
• Able to work within a budget
• Financial acumen

Responsibilities, including but not limited to:                                               

Irrigation management:

Strong knowledge in managing Centre pivots (79 pivots irrigating 7500 ha of sugarcane)

Strong knowledge in furrow irrigation management (1500 ha)

Planning and programming for spares in advance and efficient usage of limited budget.

Regular follow up irrigation of maintenance system

Giving regular training to the staff and guiding them to achieve the goal sets by Agriculture director.

Assure quality irrigation and timely irrigation.

Monitoring contractor land preparation:

Able to control the quality of land preparation for about 2000 ha work done through contractors annually (ploughing and Harrowing)

Should have minimum knowledge about the usage of high HP tractors and implements

Able to maintain the fleet of 40 tractors doing herbicides operations and fertilizer application and ridging activities.

Topography Section:

Good knowledge of modern survey systems

Good knowledge with exporting maps for field details

Strong experience to manage civil fleets (graders, bulldozer, excavators etc.)

Strong experience in maintaining the irrigation channels using excavators, drainage system, and road maintains of 600 Km roads (Infield roads, main estate roads etc.).

Managing electrical sector:

Able to manage an electrical team who is responsible to maintain electrical lines and 35 pump stations,

Able to manage budget, stock management for the electrical system.

Managing pump sector:

Able to manage a pumping maintenance team who is responsible to maintain electrical lines and 35 pump stations,

Able to manage budget, stock management for the pumping maintenance team.

Civil sector:

Able to manage a small civil maintenance team who are responsible for maintaining small civil structures for pivot maintenance and infrastructures.
