Our client is seeking a well experienced Electronics Engineer to support the technical operations team with electronics, electrical, mechatronic as well as electro-optical issues, during design, development, installation, acceptance testing and maintenance. The position is within a dynamic team, comprised of approximately three dozen staff, including astronomers, electronics, optical and mechanical engineers, technicians, and software developers. You may be required to travel abroad to attend international conferences and visit partner institutions, other telescopes, and suppliers.

Qualifications & Experience
BSc / B.Eng, preferably a MSc / MEng Electronic Engineering.
10 years post qualification experience.
Registered with ECSA.
Wiremen’s License.
Good experience in multi-disciplinary system design, development, commissioning, fault finding, and maintenance.
Exposure to electro-optical systems.
Exposure to telescope control systems and instruments will be a distinct advantage.
Experience with LabView and/or Python development will be a distinct advantage.
Experience in Project Management.
Exposure to software development.
Exposure to SE processes.
Proficient in Office applications (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
Experience working in a multi-disciplinary and high technology environment.
Experience working with low voltage (0-1000V AC) electrical power.
Experience with electronic systems development, fault finding, debugging and support.
Experience with data analysis tools and techniques.
Experience with digital and analogue electronics.
Experience with risk assessment.
Experience with control system analysis, design, development, and integration.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
A demonstrated track record of taking responsibility and accountability for own and subordinates’ work.
Good verbal and written English communication skills.
Good teamwork as a leader and member of a team.
Good stakeholder and supplier relations.
Must be able to cope under pressure.
Responsibilities:
Compile (sub)system specifications.
Design and develop electronic/electro-mechanical systems.
Ensure configuration control of subsystems documentation.
Subsystem performance analysis and reporting.
Execute design reviews.
Fault finding and correcting faults together with the team at Head Office in Cape Town and site in the Northern Cape.
Perform standby duties.
Lead a team of electronics technicians.
Write and/or contribute to international conference papers.
