Electronics Engineer – Embedded Hardware

SUMMARY:
Join an exciting renewable energy company where you will be involved in design of renewable energy solutions for the consumer electronics industry, including selection of components, designing PCBs, designing and performing hardware tests, making custom testing tools, designing other related hardware needed (e.g.  test benches, product casings, etc.) and provide input towards product and process hardware accommodating software.

POSITION INFO:
General Duties:
Participates in the development of test strategies for devices and systems
The applicant must be able to handle the requirements of a senior team member
Liaising with suppliers and PCB/PCBA manufacturers
Engage and provide insight in a multi-disciplined team
Capture and document product requirements
Assist in writing technical specifications
Manufacturing support
Testing procedures documentation
Jig Design
Managing the implementation/testing of new versions of design software and hardware
Optimization of product performance requirements, cost, and reliability
Preparing product and manufacturing documentation packages as required by the project
Identifying and tracking technical issues and driving them to closure
Tracks and reviews project status with management
Coordinates the activities and provides peer guidance to lower-level Engineers, Technicians to bring projects to successful completion
Interfacing with other R&D team members and Supply Chain as needed to develop the cost-effective high-quality design.
Interfacing with domestic and overseas fabrication and assembly vendors to develop capability criteria, maintain producibility checklists and procedures, and resolve production issues
Recommends changes in procedure, design or equipment where necessary
Manage documentation and designs in a change-controlled environment

Technical Duties:
Develop electrical-based systems including electronics, electrical harness and wiring, various sensor type selection and evaluation, and associated electrical systems
Designing Power, Digital, Analog and RF layouts following Engineering specifications
Understanding and developing with the R&D team on material selection, impedance calculations, PCB stack-ups, PCB track layout, component placement, etc. during the design phase, and performing reviews on the design when it is ready for fabrication and/or assembly
Prototyping and testing of electronic circuits
Electronic hardware design and PCB layout (Design for manufacture focus essential)
Design verification and commercialization of electronic designs
Liaising with electrical/mechanical team members where disciplines overlap
Design review and motivation (Simulations where required)

Skills & Experience
Required Skills:
Fundamentals in Electronic design (including debugging)
Electronic communications (I2C/UART/RS485)
Wireless communication (Cellular/Wifi/Bluetooth)
Experience in implementing encrypted communications (MQTTS/WebSockets/CoAP over TLS/etc)
Embedded systems (Hardware)
ECAD design (Preferably Altium)
Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes (PCB’s)
Design/Implementation of standards/workflows
Structured/Systematic hardware management
Release testing procedures
Documentation standards
Version Control
Excellent communication and technical writing skills

Advantageous Skills:
Experience as technical lead with design and management of projects
Code planning/design
Firmware development languages: C/C++, Python, Linux
Use of containers (Docker)
High-volume production experience
freeRTOS, multi-threading applications
Exposure to implementation of firmware security
Exposure to remote firmware Over-the-Air updates

Qualification:
BEng/BSc (Electronics Engineering or another relevant degree, e.g. Mechatronic Engineering)
Minimum 8 - 10 years experience (Embedded Hardware with a Power Background)
