POSITION INFO:
Purpose:
Support the business to drive for a high-performance culture and a culture of discipline while maintaining company core values.

Minimum Qualifications:
Matric
Diploma in Human Resource Management or equivalent.

Minimum Experience:
Human Resource Management: 5 years Operational;
3 or more years of experience in Employee Relations in an industrial environment.
Labour law experience thorough understanding of, and experience in the application of, all SA Labour legislation (EEA. BCEA, LRA, Skills Development Act, OHaSA etc.).
Disciplinary management, performance management, collective bargaining experience.
CCMA/Bargaining Council Experience from conciliation through to arbitration.

Roles and Responsibilities include inter alia:

  • Proactively work to address employee relations issues through strategic management interaction.
  • To be responsible for the provision of an effective day-to-day advisory service to improve people management skills and ultimately improve the overall performance of the organisation through better managed staff.
  • To act as a specialist resource to managers providing advice on highly complex employee relations issues (e.g. disciplinary, grievance, sickness absence, performance management appeals and harassment/bullying issues).
  • To coach and support managers on adopting good HR practice by offering effective HR advice through the interpretation of current employment & case law, best practice and employment policies.
  • To train all employees on HR related policies and managers on the disciplinary and grievance processes.
  • To take the lead on preparing for hearings including supporting managers attending the hearings.
  • To develop and maintain effective communication and consultation with staff and their trade union representatives both formally and informally, in order to foster positive working relationships.
  • To foster and maintain effective relationships with managers through the use of highly developed and effective communication skills.
  • Monitor the effectiveness execution of HR Processes and policies related to recruitment, performance management, payroll, training and development.
  • Resolve any escalated issues in order to ensure that organizational and employee needs are serviced with speed and quality.
  • Develop effective working relationships with Trade Union and other staff representatives to ensure good employment relations.
  • Provide professional advice and guidance on equality issues to ensure compliance with Equality legislation and best practice.
  • Facilitate, chair and be involved in various meetings e.g. production meetings, employment equity, labour relations forums.
  • Drive and oversee all ER initiatives.
  • Represent company interests in bargaining council negotiations, when required.
  • Liaise with various partners - Unions / Lawyers / staff / management on discussions and outcomes and mandates.
  • Be familiar with and understand all applicable labour legislation.
  • Engage line and staff in all potential risks identified regarding non-compliance or amendments and plan and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Respond to complex queries and assist management of all aspects of issues around disciplinaries, grievances, performance management processes and redundancies.
  • Represent the company at CCMA and Bargaining Council.
  • Co-ordinate the employment equity initiatives in order to ensure legal compliance.
  • Plan and manage implementation of ad-hoc ER projects.
