SUMMARY:
The incumbent will be responsible for the supervision and coordination of site personnel and subcontractors, and also the performance of site activities

POSITION INFO:

Duties and Responsibilities

Ensures all site activities are aligned to the company’s quality policies and procedures

-           Make a deliberate effort to gain a full understanding and working knowledge of the Company’s Quality Systems, ensuring all site personnel adhere to them at all times

-           Prior to the commencement of site works, gain an understanding of the relevant project specifications and drawings

-           On an on-going basis, monitor all works against specifications to ensure the continuing quality and accuracy of work performed

-           Notify the Projects Manager / Construction Manager of any defects, mistakes, errors, contamination or variations identified

-           Ensure all the applicable quality checklists are properly completed.

 

Ensures all site activities are aligned to the company’s safety policies and procedures

-           Make a deliberate effort to gain a full understanding and working knowledge of the Company’s OH&S and Environmental Policies and Procedures, ensuring all site personnel adhere to them at all times

-           Ensure the appropriate safety equipment is worn by site personnel at all times

-           Ensure that all requests to perform unsafe work practices that may result in damage to machinery, people or property are declined

-           Notify the Systems Manager and/or a member of the Safety Committee regarding any unsafe or potentially hazardous situations on site.

 

Responsible for planning and production control activities

-           Ensures weekly output required as well as pre-costing are achieved

-           Instructs carpenters what formwork to use by means of sketches or discussion

-           Implements the weekly programme agreed with the GES

-           Draws up daily programmes in the light of set weekly programmes (the day before) and asks for the necessary plant, labour and material

-           Take charge of one or more construction groups and allocate tasks to team leaders, skilled labour and labourers

-           Complete daily reports and time sheets accurately and timeously, and hand these in to office, together with tally sheets, delivery notes received and other paperwork

-           Ensure that labour force has correct and sufficient materials for each day’s work, and supplement these as required. Ensure that materials are not wasted, and that surplus materials are returned to store

-           Ensure that all plant and machinery is properly maintained by Plant Co., refuelled as necessary, operated in a productive but safe manner, follows prescribed start up and shut down procedures.

 

Responsible for supervision of all site activities

-           Ensure the daily programming of all site works is performed in accordance with the Company construction program

-           In conjunction with the Project Manager, Site Engineer and Construction Manager plan and review overall status of project(s) on an on-going basis

-           Ensure all site resource (labour, machinery, materials, sub-contractors etc) are effectively utilised and monitored in order to achieve timely completion of projects

-           Ensure the Purchasing Officer is provided with sufficient notice when plant and equipment are free to go to another site

-           Upon completion of task, ensure all appropriate hired in plant and equipment is promptly off hired

-           Identify and record any possible variations to the contract, ensuring the Project Manager / Construction Manager is promptly notified

-           Ensure site diary is completed at the completion of each day, accurately recoding the day’s events.

Responsible for the effective management of sub-contractors

-           Ensure all reasonable steps are taken in order to achieve industrial harmony within the organisation at all time

-           On an on-going basis, monitor the progress of sub-contractors in order to determine suitability for future work

-           Delegate tasks to direct reports in line with skill, knowledge and ability and where necessary identify skill gaps and training requirements

-           Ensure that relevant information is communicated to direct reports/sub-contractors enabling them to effectively carry out their functions

-           Make self-available as coach/mentor in assisting direct reports to develop in their positions

Responsible for the requisition of materials

-           Checks on quality of material by observation

-           Checks on wastage of materials through observation

-           Requisitions materials through the general foreman

 

Takes accountable for staffing requirements of the site

-           Responsible for sign off on all timecard

-           Has detailed knowledge of the work being carried out by those in his/her team

-           Assists in setting production standards for labour training

-           Responsible for improving quality of the workforce through instruction and knowledge transfer interventions

-           Ensure that labour is transported to and from workplace.

-           Ensure that labour force understands tasks to be carried out, and demonstrate if required

-           Ensure that workplace is kept safe, that protective clothing is in use where mandatory and that all safety precautions which have been instructed, are complied with

-           Maintain discipline in workforce, and ensure that timekeeping is acceptable. Follow approved Industrial Relations policy

 

Responsible for developing and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders

-           Assists the client with information and ad hoc requests

-           Ensure adherence to contractual agreement

-           Ensure accurate and punctual reporting of data to the client

 

Qualification required:

-        N4 or higher Engineering qualification

-        Qualified Artisan

Experience required:

-        3 -5 years related work experience

 

 

Knowledge and skills required:

-        Ability to build and maintain good relationship

-        Good interpersonal skills

-        Ability to share knowledge

-        Technical knowledge

-        Problem solving skills
