Core Responsibilities
• Operational Oversight: Manage daily dredging activities including mobilization, setup, the work phase (excavation and disposal), and demobilization.
• Technical Planning: Develop dredging strategies based on hydrographic and topographic surveys and sediment analysis to determine the best equipment (e.g., cutter suction vs. Jet suction dredgers).
• Compliance & Safety: Enforce strict adherence to marine safety protocols (e.g., OSHA, EM 385-1-1) and environmental regulations to minimize impact on marine ecosystems.
• Financial Control: Manage project budgets, tracking costs for fuel, labor, and equipment maintenance while ensuring accurate invoicing and collections.
Typical Daily Duties
• Conducting site visits and reviewing hydrographic and topographic survey data to verify dredge profile deliverables.
• Monitoring vessel production rates and optimizing operational efficiency to reduce downtime.
• Supervising a multidisciplinary crew, including dredge masters, surveyors, and marine engineers.
• Preparing daily progress reports for management and clients, tracking labor productivity and schedule status.
Key Requirements & Qualifications
• Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Marine Engineering, or Geology is standard.
• Experience: Typically requires 7–15 years in the dredging or maritime industry, with at least 5 years in a managerial capacity.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD, GIS tools, and hydrographic survey software like Hypack.
• Physical Demands: Ability to work in remote locations for extended periods and move safely across marine vessels (ladders, uneven surfaces).
Salary: 6000 - 7000USD pm plus 500USD pm for daily expenses, accomodation, car and driver, life insurance and medical aid. 2 flights per annum home for 2 weeks break at a time.
