Job Summary:
We are seeking a hands-on and experienced Farm Supervisor / Foreman to oversee daily operations on a mixed-use farm in Pretoria East. The role includes management of livestock (cattle, poultry, and goats), crop production (vegetables, maize, and lucerne), and general farm maintenance. The successful candidate must be a strong leader with practical skills, able to manage both people and resources effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate daily tasks of farm workers
- Oversee feeding, health checks, breeding, and well-being of livestock (cattle, poultry, goats)
- Ensure effective irrigation, fertilising, pest control, and harvesting of crops (vegetables, maize, lucerne)
- Maintain infrastructure including fences, water lines, pens, and machinery
- Monitor and manage staff performance, attendance, and task completion
- Keep accurate records of livestock, planting schedules, inputs, and yields
- Assist with ordering of supplies and liaise with suppliers and vets as required
- Implement and enforce safety and hygiene standards for staff and animals
- Report regularly to the farm owner or general manager
Minimum Requirements:
- 5+ years of farm experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role
- Strong knowledge of animal husbandry and seasonal crop farming
- Practical skills in maintenance, irrigation systems, and equipment use
- Proven leadership and communication abilities
- Basic literacy and numeracy for reporting and task planning
- Able to work under pressure and adapt to changing conditions
- Valid driver’s license (tractor or bakkie driving is an advantage)
- Must be physically fit, reliable, and trustworthy
