FINANCIAL MANAGER (ROUTE TO FINANCIAL DIRECTOR & EVENTUALLY MD)

POSITION INFO:

In a newly created position to understudy and be mentored by the current Financial Director who is exceptional, join a highly entrepreneurial Company that was established in 2007 by two people who are both equal Shareholders. The one has the technical prowess and the other is highly business and commercially gifted in driving the growth of the Company. Initially, the two partners merely imported, sold and distributed their technical product to customers. This medium-sized business has now developed into a fully-fledged assembly operation where parts are imported from overseas and assembled in a slick factory operation.  This Company has become the market leader in SA in their niche industry and is planning to expand internationally, therefore new management and executive positions are being created. It is not an understatement to describe their EXCO as the “A-Team” as the Company only appoints people who have high IQ’s and EQ’s, are exceptionally qualified and have outstanding CV’s. It should be noted that the current FD will be moving into a General Management role as soon as the new appointee has been sufficiently trained and has obtained the necessary experience to be promoted to Financial Director.

Initially, the successful candidate will be mentored and trained in all aspects of the financial management role and will subsequently take over the running over the financial affairs of the Company.  It should be emphasized, however, that the Financial Department is very small and consists of an Accountant/Bookkeeper and a Receptionist who also does some admin.  This translates into the position being very hands-on in all aspects of the financial role, ranging from menial tasks like analysing GL entries and doing the necessary corrections, preparing the more complex Recons and general oversight of the financial function.  There are weekly stock takes that need to be managed and reconciled, the signing off of Purchase Orders, analysing of stock, establishing competitive pricing (most stock is imported and then assembled), ensure accurate recoveries occur, reviewing quotes and deciding on which sales to pursue, signing release forms for all stock that is sold and ensuring that monies owed have been received (there are no Debtors). On a monthly basis, there is a compilation of twenty page management pack which is prepared on Excel and a historic Cashflow is also completed (the Company is always cash flush).  These are just some of the duties the candidate will be involved in. Needless to say, there will be ongoing interaction with Customers, Suppliers, Bankers and other Stakeholders.

The culture of the Company is highly results driven, very hands-on and highly structured noting that Management begin there day at 7 in the morning and do not leave before 5.  It is important to stress that the successful candidate will keep the same hours, have a level of urgency, high energy and be exceptionally ambitious as well as results driven.

The client is seeking an exceptional, recently qualified CA(SA) (pass Board 1^st attempt) who is highly self-driven, proactive, assertive, passionate, energetic and bottom line focused and is comfortable working in a small to medium Company that is growing rapidly. Nevertheless, it is expected that this person will still have an eye for detail, be accurate, methodical and yet be interested in business and have commercial acumen which will be realised in this role. Well-developed Excel skills are a necessity and this includes V&H Lookups, Pivot Tables, Sum-ifs and sound experience in creating and using formulas. Interpersonal skills are also key in terms of creating excellent working relationships with both staff in the Company and external Service Providers as well as being an excellent communicator in both the verbal and written format.
