Field Trial Specialist (Agriculture)

SUMMARY:
My client is a research company with it's Head Office based in Cape Town and offices all over South Africa. Their main focus is ultimately the consumer, however there is a big focus on the environment and the use of crop protection products.

POSITION INFO:

Food Security is a Global Problem affecting every human. An excellent career opportunity for a Field Trial Specialist, in the agricultural sector, has become available at a research company based in the Northern Suburbs. You will become a part of the dynamic Crop Science Research & Development team.

The primary responsibility of this role is to perform field trial work pertaining to crop science research. The position will require the collection and management of efficacy data and residues by complying with the research protocols.

An understanding and working knowledge of agricultural systems and technology and the crops in the Western Cape will be extremely advantageous.

The person will become part of a team but should be able to work and manage his projects independently.

* Analyse and interpret data
* Excellent Communication Skills (verbal and written in both Afrikaans and English)
* Work with limited supervision
* Must be a problem solver
* Work methodically and systematically
* Must be able to work under pressure

Key tasks and responsibilities:

* Establishing field trials according to approved protocols
* Project planning and management
* Generate reliable field trial data
* Resolving issues in the field and identifying potential opportunities to address needs as required
* Communicate with co-operator farmers
* Correctly identifying weeds, diseases and pests in the specific crop where trial is applied
* Evaluating field trials as per protocol and send updates timeously to Senior Management
* Recording all captured data accurately
* Be responsible for supervising small team

Minimum requirements:

* Agricultural qualification with Mathematical background
* Must have code 08 driver’s license
* Excellent time management skills
* Ability to multi-task
* Strong leadership skills
* Computer literacy
* Must be a hard worker
* Hands-on person with commitment to detail

* Must be prepared to travel (Will be required to travel long distances and be away from home from time to time)
