Financial Accountant

Job Purpose:

The Accountant will handle the day-to-day processing of transactions (this will include cashbook processing, debtors, creditors and fixed assets) as well as month end functions of balance sheet reconciliations, VAT returns and intercompany invoicing. This role will also handle the payables function for all creditors to ensure accurate data in the accounts payable system and to make payments according to corporate guidelines. This is an on-site position.

Core Job Accountabilities:

• Processing all cashbook entries and preparing the monthly bank reconciliation to ensure that cashbook balances to bank account
• Processing monthly fixed asset entries and performing reconciliations to ensure that entries have posted correctly, all assets have been loaded correctly and that system reports balance to ledger
• GRNíng all stock into the system at the correct cost to ensure that all costs pull through to the ledger correctly and that stock is available to be invoiced
• Processing invoices to customers and ensuring that all invoicing has been processed monthly
• Processing all supplier invoices and performing monthly creditors reconciliations by the 10^th of every month
• Submitting monthly VAT returns and audit schedules when requested
• Performing monthly reconciliations of the balance sheet accounts and bringing any issues to management’s attention timeously
• Reviewing all invoices for appropriate documentation and approval prior to presenting for payment
• Verifying entries and comparing system reports to statements.
• Maintaining accounting ledgers by verifying and posting account transactions.
• Preparing monthly management accounts to be distributed to management team by the monthly deadline
• Performing other related duties, as assigned.

Technical Skills:

Technical – Knowledge of accounting principles related to fixed assets, inventory, accounts payables and accounts receivables.

Technological – Working knowledge of MS Office Suite. Intermediate proficiency in Excel.

Educational/Experiential Requirements:

• University Degree or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of experience in an accounting environment.
• Experience in all aspects of ledger processing (cashbook, fixed assets, accounts payable, accounts receivable and inventory).
