 Purpose

Financial analysts are responsible for financial planning, analysis and financial projections. They forecast future revenues and expenditures to establish cost structures and determine capital budgeting for projects.

Technical Competencies

  • Financial Management: Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, financial reporting, accounting, financial statement drafting, statutory compliance (Expert level)
  • Auditing & Internal Control: Knowledge of internal control assessment, including risk assessment, design and review of standard operating procedures, reports to management indicating weaknesses found and recommendations (Expert level)
  • Project Management: Knowledge of the principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources, including monitoring and inspecting costs, work, and contractor performance. (Competent level)
  • Public Sector & Grant/Development Fund: Knowledge of PFMA, GRAP, Grant or development funds assessment, disbursements, grant or development funds expenditure monitoring and also conduction and assisting in research related to portfolio performance, project performance and contribution to lessons learnt on implementation and roll-out of various programmes. (Competent level)
  • Computer Literacy: Knowledge and ability to use computers and technology efficiently. Refers to the comfort level someone has with using computer programs and other applications associated with computers (MSOffice, Internet, email) (Competent level)


Qualifications

  • Degree/Diploma (NQF Level 7) in Accounting or Finance or Auditing


Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Financial reporting, auditing, and financial analysis
  • Public sector and or grant / development management experience
