Role Summary We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Accountant to assume responsibility for the full accounting function across our clients' property investment and retail operations. The role’s core focus is on executing and maintaining accurate, compliant, and reliable financial information that supports sound business decisions.
Reporting to the Financial Manager, this position requires a hands-on professional who enjoys taking ownership of processes from start to finish. You will work with a small finance team of three, who manage daily transaction processing, while your key responsibility is to ensure accurate reporting, compliance, and the integrity of financial records.

Key Areas of Responsibility Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Execute the full accounting cycle, including month-end and year-end closings, journal entries, reconciliations, and ledger maintenance.
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts, variance analyses, and financial statements for review.
- Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of all financial data.
Statutory & Regulatory Compliance
- Prepare and submit VAT, PAYE, UIF, SDL and other statutory returns in compliance with applicable legislation.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax, accounting, and reporting standards (including IFRS for SMEs).
Team Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with finance support staff, providing guidance, oversight, and quality reviews of transactional work.
- Promote efficient workflow and adherence to accounting standards and internal controls.
Continuous Improvement & Controls
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of the finance function.
- Support the Financial Manager in financial planning, audits, and ad hoc reporting needs.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (essential).
- Professional Membership: Active membership with a recognised professional accounting body such as:
- CA (SA), CGMA, ACMA, Professional Accountant (SA), or AGA (SA)
- Experience:
- Minimum of 2+ years’ post-articles experience in a commercial environment.
- Proven experience in managing and executing the end-to-end accounting function.
- Experience working as part of a finance team and reviewing others’ work.
- Systems Proficiency:
- Essential: Advanced, hands-on experience with Xero Accounting Software.
- Highly Advantageous: Familiarity with SimplePay, Dext, and SARS eFiling.
