Financial Manager

SUMMARY:
To manage the Head Office finance department in line with IRFS and sound financial governance principles

POSITION INFO:

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Qualified CA (SA)
• Minimum 5 years in senior finance role in mining or manufacturing environment
• Sound Knowledge of SAGE (advantageous)
• Expert knowledge of MS Excel
• Practical knowledge of IFRS, Vat and Income Tax Act
• Understanding of reconciliation processes; principles of corporate governance including risk assessment and control frameworks

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

• Ensure Corporate Governance and Statutory Compliance
• Budgeting and Performance monitoring
• Manage Head Office accounts-payable function
• Check and authorize Supplier payment release
• Manage Head Office working capital management and cash flow forecasting
• Manage Head office Tax schedules
• Head office Review of all Trial Balances of subsidiaries.
• Coordinate and approve Head office finance procurement transactions
• Guide improvement and maintenance of all policy, processes, procedures, and internal controls for head office with a Group focus on:

-       Accounts payable

-       Intercompany balancing process

-       Banking and Treasury

-       Payment Reconciliations and third-party payments

• Review all reconciliations prepared for the head office balance sheet and payroll
• Control assessments
• Co-ordinate all company Internal Audit Reviews for head office and monitor findings and ensure resolutions thereof
• Co-Ordinate all External Audit Reviews for head office on a yearly basis and ensure timely response to queries. Monitor findings and ensure resolution thereof.
• Supervise Head office finance team
• Participate in / lead relevant finance related projects, including Group initiated projects
• Builds relationships with all head office departments to ensure efficient integration of all transactional and reporting aspects.

POSITION CHALLENGES:

• Managing people from own department as well as input from other departments to ensure timely and accurate completion of head office financial functions
• Obtaining effective buy-in from other departments to ensure effective and effective execution of tasks
• In-depth understanding of all company policies, procedures including the Procurement Policy Manual as well as external legislation e.g., IFRS, Vat and Income Tax Act to drive compliance
• Keeping up to date with all internal company policies and external legislation
• Sound judgment and professional skepticism when reviewing payments for compliance
• Being able to organize tasks in the department and allocate time to all duties to ensure accurate accounting and reconciliation within tight deadlines
• Attention to detail to ensure that all transactions, reconciliations, and reporting are completed accurately and consistently

DECISION-MAKING:

• Application of policies and procedures to unusual transactions
• Determine relevant course of actions to follow on instances of non-compliance identified across departments
• Addressing resolution of shortcomings identified in relevant processes
• Alternative arrangements to meet deadlines
• Manage team performance and identify and address needs
