Financial Manager

Qualified CA. At least 10 yrs post articles exp. Preferred industry mining, construction, manufacturing. Exposure to commercial management of contracts and a member of a senior management forum. Responsible for the full spectrum of Financial and Management accounting, including regulatory reporting for the responsible divisions and the day to day operational procurement.

TEAM MANAGEMENT

On-going communication and collaboration with the COO and CFO and his/her direct reports regarding financial, commercial, enterprise risk management and IT related matters

On-going communication and collaboration with divisional Manco regarding financial, commercial, enterprise risk management and IT related matters

Exposing Operations to the ERP and HRM systems and their capabilities, advocating and promoting the effective usage of business intelligence available from the systems

Assess the financial skills required by operational managers and commit to develop those skills to enable them to perform their responsibilities with a better understanding of financial and commercial aspects

Actively promoting financial literacy throughout the division

Management of SLAs for ERP and HRM systems to ensure optimal service, thereby enhancing team effectiveness

DIVISIONAL STRATEGY

As a key member of the divisional leadership team, providing assistance with the development and implementation of divisional strategy within the framework of group strategy

Actively involved in, and able to bring influence to bear on, all material divisional decisions to ensure that implications, opportunities, and risks are fully considered, thereby achieving alignment with the group’s strategy

Responsible for financial quantification and interpretation of divisional strategy

Supports the development of divisional expansion strategies to enhance shareholder value by:

Having a good understanding of the specific division and industry within which the company operates, country risks, the competition, suppliers, etc.

Ensuring that professional advice on matters that have financial implications is available and documented well in advance of decision making and used appropriately.

Ensuring that those making decisions regarding specific opportunities are provided with information that is fit for the purpose, relevant, timely and gives clear explanations of financial issues and their implications.

Assessing the division’s skills, assets, and funding capabilities in place (in consultation with COO and CFO) to determine ability for pursuing opportunities.

Planning and executing financial and commercial aspects of major transactions required to implement the division’s strategy

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

Co-ordinating the planning and budgeting processes, setting financial targets and key performance indicators for the division

Measurement against set targets and performance indicators, determining causes for variances and corrective actions to be and advising on financial viability of commercial opportunities

Assessment of and providing input on balance sheet management (assets and liabilities)

Ensuring debt collection is controlled as per contractual arrangements with clients

Ensuring that systems and processes for financial administration and control and protection of the division’s resources and assets are adhered to

Participate at Group level in the development and implementation of corporate governance, tax and statutory accounting standards

Overseeing of correct application of commercial contracts (revenue and costs).

Assessing the division’s financial, commercial and risk management style and the improvements needed to ensure it aligns with the group’s standards and strategic direction.

Promoting arrangements to identify and manage key business risks, including safeguarding assets, risk mitigation and insurance

Overseeing of capital projects and post completion reviews.

Applying discipline in financial management, including monitoring debt collection, cash flow, approval of expenditure and ensuring contractual terms for revenue escalations are affected

Implementing appropriate measures to prevent and detect fraud and corruption (in consultation with Manco)

COMMERCIAL MANAGEMENT

Review of tenders or other client proposals to ensure corporate guidelines and financial principles for assessment of financial viability of the tender or proposal have been adhered to

Review contract documentation and ensure that financial risks have been properly taken into account and mitigated where feasible

All commercial contracts to be entered into to be countersigned by Divisional Senior Financial Manager

Ensuring that any partnership arrangements are underpinned by clear and well documented agreements and internal controls

REPORTING

Review of monthly divisional reporting

Oversight and review of divisional budget, including detailed supporting schedules

Preparation/review of input for Manco, Exco and board financial reports

Financial presentations for various meetings

Ensuring compliance with statistical and other government departmental requirements related to Finance as specified by Group

TREASURY

Monitoring of working capital requirements

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Provide input in formulation of all financial policies and procedures

Review of group approval framework, ensuring divisional approval framework is aligned

Participate in review and updating of workflows on ERP system, ensuring alignment with policies and procedures and approval framework

TAXATION

Provide assistance with any SARS queries related to the division

Monitoring of tax compliance as part of development of tenders and other proposals

Participate in tax planning during budgeting process

In depth offshore tax knowledge ( direct and indirect taxes)

INSURANCE

Provide assistance with claims management and risk mitigation in respect of divisional claims

Assist with annual renewal

Review of offshore insurance to ensure adequate cover is in place in respect of divisional offshore operations

ENTERPRISE RISK MANAGEMENT

Management of financial risks at divisional level in accordance with group enterprise risk management policy

Participate in group risk assessment process and mitigation of risks

Preparation of divisional enterprise risk management report

BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE

Development and maintenance of BI dashboards for Manco and divisional operational management

Analysis of key trends and providing input and advice where required to enhance divisional performance

Using non-financial data captured on ERP system to assess financial performance against established benchmarks or similar operations within the division

INTERNAL & EXTERNAL AUDIT

Review of audit findings related to divisional processes and coordinate management comments

Implementation of any relevant improvements / recommendations

Provide assistance in the carrying out of the internal and external audit

BBBEE

Ensure compliance to BBBEE platform

SUPPLIER AND PROCUREMENT MANAGEMENT

Ensure that the best prices and contract/ purchasing terms with key suppliers are negotiated

Ensure compliance and adherence to Group procurement procedures

Ensure divisional procurement savings initiatives are achieved
