JOB SUMMARY:
This a senior position head of Finance in a large construction company based in Pinetown

JOB DESCRIPTION:

* Taking responsibility for all the financial systems and financial team (direct report = 3 {1 x cashbook & ledger clerk + 2x creditor clerks} and indirect report {depending on circumstances} = 3;

* Contract schedule reporting to the directors including contract provisions;

* Banking and treasury including facility review;

* Reviewing payments and releasing - attending to the management of the online banking system together with the administrator;

* Ensuring accuracy and integrity of the general ledger;

* Ensuring tax compliance as regards PAYE, VAT and income tax;

* All tax - monthly VAT and EMP return submissions plus annual and bi-annual tax calculations (**) as well as dealing with SARS for verifications, objections (**), IT14SDs (**) etc;

* Salary payroll - while not processing the payroll, this is an element that requires close oversight including monthly reviews, issuing IRP5s, EMP501s, tax directives etc (Wage payroll is not included);

* Other payroll related - medical aid and provident fund management;

* Attending to the annual WCA/FEMA declarations;

* Maintaining staff records for leave etc and dealing with ad hoc staff issues;

* Liaising with auditors and attending to the annual audits and other statutory requirements for example CIPC, Stats SA and the like;

* Attending to the annual insurance review as regards extent of cover and risks;

* Assisting with the BEE annual audit - financial matters - and liaising with these auditors as required;

* Overseeing the drafting of the financial statements (**);

* Legal matters - credit applications, credit bureaus and giving ad hoc advice when required plus drafting/input of/on contracts and MoUs (**) including Companies Act;

* IT support and input where required;

* Support to the directors on legal, business, valuation and other related matters as they arise.

Items succeeded with (**) are those areas that I have experience in and ability to perform which negates the need for outside consulting. Previously these functions were paid for.

The role does not necessarily exclude any person who is not a chartered accountant; in my view a person with suitable experience (coupled with sound business knowledge) could also do this role. Such a person may not have the in depth knowledge to do the items marked with a (**) but they should be able to do the rest. Effectively we want the right person regardless of qualifications and titles.

If a person has exposure to the bullet points above then they should be suitable for the role. Obviously construction experience would be advantageous but is not an absolute necessity in my opinion.

Reporting structure is flat and quite informal. Head office head count is lean and numbers approximately ten staff (excluding directors and contracts managers who have offices in the building).

Salary structure - gross package includes (after probation period) medical aid subsidy, provident fund, risk benefits (dread disease, death & disability) plus annual bonus (at director''s discretion). Package would depend on experience and abilities.
