About the Position
Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced
Fitter to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective maintenance, servicing, repair and installation of mechanical plant and ancillary equipment within a sawmilling environment. The role requires a strong focus on operational efficiency, safety, quality workmanship and preventative maintenance, with the ability to work independently and respond effectively to breakdowns and maintenance requirements.
POSITION INFO:
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS Matric \/ NTC 3 qualification. Completed Trade Test as a Fitter and Turner, with a valid Red Seal Certificate; OR Relevant equivalent skills and practical experience for candidates who are not trade tested. Extensive experience in the servicing, maintenance and installation of: Hydraulic and pneumatic equipment; Conveyors; Gearboxes; and Belt and chain drive systems. Proven experience working with sawmill-related equipment, including: Frame saws, bandsaws and associated equipment; Drum chippers; and Debarkers. Proven welding experience and ability. Minimum of 15 years' experience in a sawmilling environment , with Wetmill experience being an added advantage. Must be medically fit and maintain sober habits. Valid Code EB driver's licence and own reliable transport. Willingness to work irregular hours and perform standby duties when required. Willingness and ability to work overtime regularly, particularly on weekends. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Ability to communicate in Xhosa will be considered an added advantage. JOB DESCRIPTION Perform effective and cost-efficient mechanical maintenance, servicing and repairs on all plant and ancillary equipment within the department. Carry out the safe and cost-effective installation of new plant and machinery. Accurately record all maintenance, servicing and repair work performed on plant and ancillary equipment on the relevant job cards. Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of all mechanical plant and ancillary equipment on site. Maintain a high standard of housekeeping and ensure full compliance with all applicable health and safety standards within the work area. Perform overtime and standby duties as and when required by operational needs. Provide on-the-job training, guidance and support to apprentices and semi-skilled artisans within the Engineering Division. Identify and requisition the required spares, tools and materials necessary to complete maintenance and repair work. Assist with the development, implementation and ongoing improvement of planned preventative maintenance programmes.
