SUMMARY:
Our client based in Cape Town is looking for a Fleet Manager( Shipping vessels) in the MARINE SECTOR who is responsible to ensure the day to day operations of the Company’s Vessels, Jetty and crew. MUST HAVE RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

POSITION INFO:

  • Only candidates with the following relevant experience will be considered:
  • To ensure the effective and efficient utilisation of our vessels
  • The plan for each voyage is fully communicated and agreed with the skipper.
  • This plan is then carefully and accurately monitored daily.
  • To ensure that the vessels operating procedures always comply fully and with DAFF, SAMSA, OHSA and NRCS requirements.
  • The Surveyor report proves that vessels are kept at an acceptable standard.
  • Each vessel has a valid permit that complies with the legal requirements.
  • Safety equipment and fishing gear meets the legislated conditions & requirements.
  • HACCP Audits show work areas are safe, and Marine Health & OHSA regulations are met.
  • Regular safety checks are done on all vessels and equipment.
  • On-going monitoring of vessel safety meeting minutes prove such meetings are being held.
  • All occupational injuries & diseases are immediately reported as soon as they occur/arise.
  • Time expiry logs of all safety equipment on each vessel are updated and are accurate.
  • Logbooks showing wires etc. in use, when installed, & when replaced are accurate & up to date.
  • To provide the right resources for the crew in order to achieve the required performance
  • All vessel-based staff strictly applies the ordering procedures.
  • Refuelling of the vessels is done in good time
  • To ensure that our captains and crews are familiar with all the employment conditions and operating policies and procedures - and those accurate records exist for these employees
  • New crew are properly and correctly inducted.
  • Crew receive an annual medical certificate.
  • The skippers receive an annual licence with TNPA & SAMSA.
  • Every crewmember is in possession of an employment contract.
  • All employees receive the correct normal and overtime payment.
  • Clock cards are correctly completed and presented to payroll in good time.
  • Designated employees are identified for advancement as per the EE requirements.
  • Close liaison with HR Manager ensures that training needs are being addressed staff to their full potential, and ensure their motivation, commitment and loyalty to the company.
  • To ensure that vessels operate according to a specific plan for each voyage.
  • Each vessel has the correct crew for its task.
  • Each vessel is stocked with the correct provisions.

  • Each vessel departs & returns as planned - weather & fishing conditions permitting.
  • Each vessel''s off-loading commences as soon as is practically possible.
  • To ensure all fish is off loaded in a manner that does not compromise its quality.
  • The necessary offloading procedures are applied.
  • Off-loading schedules are realistic and correctly applied for company and non-company vessels.
  • Offloading and delivery to the coldstore is completed to the satisfaction of the QC department.
  • To efficiently operate at as low a cost level and as high a productivity level as possible.
  • Fishing gear (including protective clothing) issue per vessel per trip is monitored and controlled.

  • Staff discipline always follows the understood and accepted procedures.
  • The proper application of the grievance procedure sees grievances satisfactorily resolved
  • Communicate effectively with other departments: Quality Control, Distribution, Sales, Maintenance, Production, Procurement, Administration and HR.
  • Ensure Compnay´s policies and procedures are followed. Meet all assigned goals and assist others in accomplishing their goals.
  • Maintain Order Entry Discipline. Co-ordinate and maintain the standards and procedures for the company.
  • Conduct formal performance reviews on key personnel and initiate disciplinary measures according compnay´s policy whenever needed.
  • Oversee all staff scheduling time off and overtime.          
  • Manage and control of all fleet work orders.       
  • Assures all staff has the recourses and information to perform their function.      
  • Ensure minimum waste and abuse of equipment.
  • Maintain safe working environment.
  • Ensure employee safety training is conducted as required.
  • Provide a positive motivating example for employees. Conduct training or authorize training of production employees.
  • Take all necessary actions to manage production costs and improve profitability.
  • To able to meet all assigned goals and assist others in accomplishing their goals. 
  • Conduct formal performance reviews on key personnel.
  • Initiate disciplinary measures according company Disciplinary Code of Conduct and Policies when applicable.
  • Assist employees to maintain safe working environment and comply with the Health and Safety Act.
  • Staying focused during highly repetitive tasks.
  • Being able to gather and interpret a large amount of information.
  • Presenting curated data in an organized manner.
  • Identifying issues and resolving problems in a timely manner.
  • Prioritizing and planning work activities as to use time efficiently while managing a high volume and  diverse workload
