French-speaking Certification Analyst – Africa & Middle East

SUMMARY:

Our client is looking for an enthusiastic and business-oriented person who is willing to coordinate and to administer the Fairtrade certification of companies in assigned countries in Africa.  The ability to deal with traders and producers of Fairtrade certified products and the availability to travel to assigned countries in Africa to perform Fairtrade audits, is required.  Attention to detail, willingness to learn and work in a team are essential assets in this position.  The person will be part of a dynamic and multi-cultural team which is responsible for the certification of Fairtrade customers in Africa.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities

Management of Fairtrade certification service delivery of existing clients:

• Perform evaluations of audit reports against Fairtrade Standards
• Communicate actively with existing customers and assist them with all necessary information
• Actively participate in the annual audit planning for assigned clients
• Instruct customers on Fairtrade requirements
• Act as cross-unit or cross-departmental project member
• Answer certification related questions
• Support Fairtrade Stakeholders via given channels e.g., NFO Service desk
• Assist in selection, evaluation and training of auditors
• Assist in constant improvement of certification processes

Qualifications

“Must haves”

• University level education (B.A. or equivalent) in a relevant subject (Food Science, Business, Agronomy, Economics, Environmental Science etc.)
• At least 3 years of related professional work experience in an office and customer orientated environment
• 2 years’ experience in a certification system (e.g. Organic, FSC, MSC, SA8000, ISO 14001, etc) or related business experience
• Fluent in English and French oral and written
• Flexible, pro-active and hard-working work style
• Team player with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
• Excellent communication skills and experience in dealing with different cultures
• Experience in communication & marketing with strong dedication towards customer service
• Ability to travel for business on a regular basis
• Motivation for Fairtrade
• Valid work permit for employment in South Africa

“Nice to have”

• Fluent in other languages commonly spoken amongst Fairtrade certified clients in Africa (Afrikaans, Portuguese, Swahili, Arabic etc.)
• Experience with customer relations
• Technical knowledge of the Fairtrade products traded out of Africa
• Business experience in international trade

• Customer service oriented personality (no sales-personality) who can also stand his/her ground (due to nature of position, person must be able to bring message/(non)-compliances across to remain credible as a certifier and still be diplomatic and customer service oriented)
• Ability to travel cross-continentally from time to time
