Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced employees to fill the above vacancy in the Powertrain and HVAC Component Engineering department based in Uitenhage

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, organize and control the engineering team activities in order to ensure the necessary prioritization of development and testing tasks.
  • Plan and optimize development project timing and budgets in order to provide an accurate basis for Group product decision making and obtain approval for local project resources (allocation of budget to Powertrain).
  • Research the full fuel logistics pipeline (from manufacture to supply, including housekeeping), fuel specifications and fuel sample data in managed markets, in order to present the need for cleaner fuels and lobby with industry stakeholders in the relevant markets.
  • Plan, initiate and coordinate fuel sampling activities in managed markets.
  • Advise the NAAMSA representative of fuel specification requirements by analyzing changes in legislation (fuels, emissions and homologation) in the affected markets.
  • Research all relevant aspects of emissions technology and specifications in order to evaluate the technical and financial impacts of sub-standard fuels on the vehicle.
  • Motivate for approvals/releases of product for managed markets
  • Draft and prepare official position papers on fuel and emissions standards for managed markets.
  • Enforce implementation of Group technical requirements to ensure conformity to the Groups development standards.
  • Investigate and present powertrain line-up possibilities for unique products and motivate for the need for robust engine technology for managed markets.
  • Manage local engine component technical releases by analyzing planned local content, component drawings and technical release requirements, budget and timing requirements and negotiating component release plans
  • Support the corporate decision making process with regard to product by preparing and issuing technical information for use at company forums.
  • Liaise with Group counterparts and respond to all queries from Group and external stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • BSc/BEng degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working with powertrain components, which must include petrol or diesel engine development and exhaust after-treatment systems
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in automotive fuels (petrol, diesel and biofuels) analysis and specifications
  • Fundamental understanding of Group development and release processes, as well as Group fuel analysis, requirements, processes and procedures
  • Ability to plan and execute development projects, as well as technical testing and release of components
  • Broad business understanding to judge economic development implications to the overall product economics\
  • Competency Office Software (MS PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and MS Project)
  • The ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
