Functional Analyst

SUMMARY:
We require a Functional Analyst for a 6 month contract in Cape Town.

POSITION INFO:

The role of the Functional Analyst encompasses many activities including (but not limited to): 

1) Engagement and analytical support to relevant Executives e.g. Credit and Operations:
 

- Engage frequently and pro-actively with key Executives, individually and within meetings in order to identify and deal with credit related issues that require analysis or where analysis will be beneficial.

- Understand all key business questions and analytical work performed company-wide in order to either resolve or provide support for addressing the questions.  

- Provide an informed opinion based on experience, knowledge and analysis on all key credit related matters with focus on actionable plans to reduce risk and improve revenue.

- Be proactive and identify new opportunities to analyse which will support and optimise the credit environment.

- Apply a ‘big-picture’ approach and perform end-to-end data driven analyses on key business questions and issues to simplify the complexities; including those arising from interim ‘anomalous’ reporting

- Responsible for having and maintaining In-depth understanding of key definitions used in management information and other business areas.

2) Oversight of Analysts: 

- Collaborate with DPO’s: CVS and DPO: Credit regarding selection of Analysts for the particular business focus area.

- Provide performance management input in respect of business value and business for Analysts in the business focus area.           

- Provide on-the-job training of Analysts in the business focus area; mentor as necessary and provide guidance on solutions and resolution of problems.

- In collaboration with the Team Leader, be responsible for driving deliverables of the Analysts by ensuring they have clear understanding of business request and/or work tasks and contracting functional responsibilities.

- Allocate and/or delegate and oversee the work of Analysts in the business focus area; adjust the work flow of the Analysts in the business focus area.                           

- Agree approach/process to tasks with Analysts and agree and track delivery timelines with support from Team Leader where appropriate.

- Liaise with team Leaders and DPO: Credit regarding rotating Analysts within the different business focus area.to facilitate the growth of the skills base. 

- Collaborate with the Team Leader to build and maintain a working environment which is conducive to productivity, thereby aiding in retention of skilled staff.

- Be a role model for Analysts on the generation of insight from information; display the focus on real understanding of business situation or challenge and implementation of tactics and strategies. 

3) Oversight of analyses standards and quality: 

- Work with and support the quality management of analyses within and for Credit by setting the focus and standards and mentoring other Analysts to produce effective and to standard business requirements.

- Perform quality assurance role in respect of business context, on outputs of the Analysts e.g. to ensure the correct data is used and the argument is structured properly.            

- Ensure analytical best practice by Analysts in the business focus area. in terms of business relevance and provide guidance on improving the quality of the outputs.

- Understanding the dynamics of models produced by other departments such as Management Accounting and Decision Support; e.g. credit scoring, budgeting, pricing and provisioning.

- Add value to analyses performed by other BI Analysts through quality management and strong analytical skills, good communication and high business acumen. 

4) Cross-functional teamwork:

- Communicate and liaise with other Functional Analysts, Analysts and stakeholders to receive, coordinate and prioritise work tasks to be done and delivered. Including agreeing requirement specifications and time lines

- Be the SME on specific business areas to own and understand more focussed and comprehensive views of information and data and different approaches.

5) Prioritisation of credit related data and analytical tasks:

- Liaise with different stakeholders (technical: Data and analytics and business: Credit and Ops Execs and Heads) to understand and agree wider credit priorities.

- Take responsibility for tactical Credit business issue analysis, i.e. where the need is urgent and has to be handled quicker than can be done in the CVS.

- Complete discovery phase Credit business analysis work that precedes the CVS work.

Minimum Requirements:

- Minimum of 5 years as a Functional Analyst or equivalent role. 

- Relevant tertiary qualifications.
