POSITION INFO:

Join a well known and established medium sized Group that has been in business for 50 years in both the construction and property sector.  The Group specialises in construction of residential and commercial projects in South Africa as well as having a vibrant property development operation.  Due to the need to have specialised high quality demanded products and which were mostly imported for their Construction Division, a new factory was set up in 2013 in the West Rand and has been performing very well over the last 8 years.  A sister factory was also set up next door a few years ago which required 2 of the overseas Shareholders, who specialised in their specific product range, to travel frequently from Europe to South Africa to oversee and advise on the manufacturing process and quality assurance.  However, due to the Covid epidemic, they have not been able to visit South Africa since the beginning of 2020 and an ‘interim’ General Manager has been overseeing both the manufacturing process and overall business.  The local Shareholder, who has a substantial investment in the Company, has been mandated to appoint a General Manager who in effect will be the Managing Director of this still small business. 

The successful encumbent will be responsible for the P&L and managing the business in its entirety (currently employing approximately 20 staff). He/she will drive its growth, both by increasing market share and appointing applicable staff both in the factory and in administration.  Currently, the business has an Accountant and Bookkeeper, Sales/Marketing Manager and 4 Sales Representatives, Production Manager and between 12 to 15 factory Staff.  It is also envisaged that in addition to expanding the business in SA that the candidate will also target SADC.

Requirements:

• Diploma or Degree, proven track record as General Manager and must have a strong manufacturing background
• Strong technical skills as well as commercial and business acumen
• Superior management and leadership ability including a successful track record in managing an entire business including extensive interaction with both Customers and external people
• Sound understanding of the financial aspects of a business and business generally
• Entrepreneurial ability with the skill to take the business to the next level. This will include managing and motivating staff, increasing sales, establishing the right structures, being proactive and assertive.
