GIS DEVELOPER/SPECIALIST

An exciting opportunity is available for a forward thinking, self-motivated and dynamic GIS Developer to work hand in hand with the Chief Executive Officer and Directors of Akhile Management and Consulting (Pty) Ltd at its Pretoria Offices.
PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVE
A mature, well-seasoned and energetic candidate is required for this position, as the successful applicant will have to be proactive, take initiative and make quick decisions.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
- 5 - 10 years’ work experience in the Geospatial industry;
- BSc GIS/Geomatics/Surveying or similar degree;
- Professional registration with South African Geomatics Council (SAGC);
- Advanced degree in GIS or Geospatial analysis would be highly valued;
- Helpful to have experience with AI software such as Azure ML, Google Cloud AI, etc.;
- Driver’s license and own transport.
SKILLS AND COMPENTENCIES
- Excellent time management, prioritisation and communication skills (well organised);
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines without compromising quality;
- Excellent command of the English language (verbal and written);
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Teams);
- Ability to proactively identify bottlenecks or delays and communicate these upfront together with the resolutions;
- SQL Server / PostgreSQL experience – writing and reading data from database;
- Experience with ArcGIS, Leaflet QGIS, or Python for geospatial data processing;
- Experience with data visualization and analytics tools;
- Experience in running Machine Learning and Deep Learning models (ideal experience using remote sensing data);
- Experience using GitHub, Azure Pipelines, or comparable technologies;
- Proficient documentation of applied scientific and technical research;
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and coordinate with other team members effectively;
- Azure Cloud experience is a plus; and
- Understanding of the Government tender process is advantageous.
SUMMARY OF KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate role and responsibilities are as set forth:
- Participate in business and solutions requirements definition and analysis;
- Collaborate with internal teams to produce systems design and architecture;
- Develop web mapping applications and geo-processing tools to support business requirements;
- Design, develop and integrate applications with database management systems;
- Assist in data integrity and quality assurance activities to ensure application stability;
- Design, develop, test, and deploy geo-centric solutions;
- Improve existing solutions;
- Develop documentation throughout the software development life cycle (SDLC);
- Serve as an expert on GIS solutions and provide technical support; and
- Any other related duties.
OTHER DUTIES
- Need to know key personnel (both external and internal) and need to understand the organisation’s vision, values, aims and objectives; and
- Assisting with other ad-hoc tasks from time-to-time.
REMUNERATION
Market related.
