SUMMARY:
Responsible for the management of Site, supervision and coordination of site personnel and subcontractors, the reporting of all site activities and managing the quality of work performance.
POSITION INFO:
Responsible for the management of the operational costs and ensure adherence to the prescribed budget
- Develop and manage annual budget
- Identify, suggest and implement cost saving initiatives
- Ensure reputable and cost-effective suppliers and contractors
- Manage costs expenditure to ensure effective use of funds
Problem Solving
- Resolve problems utilising acquired knowledge and analytical abilities
Plan, organise, communicate and monitor the production process.
- Provide regular feedback on progress to the relevant managers as required
- Monitor the production process and report any deviations to the relevant manager/s.
- Ensure that required production requirements and standards are communicated to all employees.
- Organise resources (staff, equipment and materials) to ensure that tasks are completed as planned.
- Plan work to ensure that tasks are completed on time and according to required standard.
Manage the Production Activities and Operations
- Review work orders to make decisions concerning inventory requirements, staffing requirements, work procedures, and duty assignments, considering budgetary limitations and time constraints.
- Ensure that regular stock takes are conducted.
- Ensure that sufficient stock levels are maintained to meet production demands.
- Ensure that company housekeeping standards and requirements are adhered to at all times.
- Monitor the production process to ensure early identification and correction of production problems/potential production problems.
- Ensure that all tasks are performed in line with production requirements and standards.
- Keep team members informed of all operational requirements.
- Organise and ensure availability of resources to ensure operational effectiveness.
- Plan production activities and processes to ensure that work can be completed on time and according to required production standards.
Manage individual and team performance
- Take appropriate action in line with relevant company policies and procedures where performance does not improve.
- Identify areas where performance is not in line with set standards and implement performance improvement measures.
- Assess individual and team performance against set goals.
- Set performance goals for team and individual team members.
- Ensure identified performance gaps are closed through effective measures
- Ensure proper allocation and availability of workforce at all time
Identify areas for continuous improvement.
- Identify and report areas for continuous improvement in and around the work area.
Ensure task performance in line with production requirements.
- Assist with breakdowns outside normal scope of work.
- React with a sense of urge and planning of tasks during breakdowns that cause production delays.
- Assist operator during down times.
Adhere to organisational safety and Quality requirements and procedures
- Inspect materials, products, or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions.
- Demonstrate equipment operations and work and safety procedures to new employees, or assign employees to experienced workers for training.
- Responsible to meet department productivity and quality goals.
Qualifications required:
- Matric or equivalent
- N4 or higher in mechanical or electrical Engineering qualification
- Qualified Artisan
Experience required:
- At least 5 years relevant experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as General Engineering Supervisor
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as Engineering Foreman in a shaft/services/winders environment
Knowledge and skills required:
- Problem Solving skills
