General Manager: Legal Operations

POSITION INFO:

A prominent organization within the infrastructure and energy sector is seeking a senior legal executive to lead its legal operations division. This pivotal, on-site leadership role drives internal capability, reduces legal spending, and supports group-level restructuring.

Minimum Requirements:

• LLB or B Proc (NQF 8) plus an admitted attorney/ advocate.
• 10+ years' post-admission experience.
• Legal operations, corporate law, governance experience essential.
• Experience managing senior legal teams and cross-functional alignment.
• Exposure to both private and public sector environments.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Driving the legal function's strategic and operational maturity during unbundling/restructuring.
• Reducing legal costs by building robust in-house capacity and better managing external panels.
• Addressing repeat audit findings and embedding effective legal knowledge management.
• Establishing and enforcing consistent frameworks, workflows and controls.
• Leading the transformation of legal operations into a world-class internal capability.
• Litigation or dispute resolution exposure is advantageous.
• Capable of engaging at board and EXCO level, while also building team capability and improving internal processes.
• Must have led or significantly contributed to legal operations., internal structuring or a legal center of excellence.
