Our client currently has an opportunity for an General Manager Sales to lead and develop sales and the sales team of Regional Sales Managers and contribute to special steels sales strategy and lead the development and implementation in the sales area. This role will require 50% travel.

The successful incumbent will hold a University degree or equivalent in Business Administration, Economics or Engineering and demonstrated experience in a similar role. Deep understanding of value creation business, finance and strategic ability.

Position details:

Reports to: Global Sales Director.
Travel requirements: 50% traveling to whole of Africa and South Africa
Number of direct reports: 6

Main Purpose
Contribute to special steels sales strategy and lead the strategy development and implementation in the sales area.
Sales management: budget, forecast, prices, mix, new customer development, follow-up of volumes and margins.
Member of the sales region management team under the leadership of the Sales Director.
Do the job safely at all times and ensure a safe working environment for the team.
Identify upgrading opportunities in the field and through battlefield analysis.

Job description

Develop strategic goals for the sales area together with the Sales and Technical Director, and break down these into relevant and concrete sales and development activities.
Plan the work on medium and short term to implement the sales area strategy and support the Regional Sales Managers in the execution.
Develop the team in product knowledge, segment knowledge, customer prospection and development, build positive relationships with the most important customers in the sales area, value creation through upgrading and business optimisation.
Coach the team to the correct development activities based on the strategic direction, by visualizing the team’s performance, through customer feedback and competitor actions in the huddle meetings.
Continuously improve the sales processes in line with the company’s one principles.
Plan and document all relevant customer activities in Salesforce.
Develop sustainable business with respect to company’s code of conduct and ensure that our business partners, including new and existing customers are meeting the same high standards in terms of sanctions, human rights and business ethics.

Job Qualification & Experience:

University degree or equivalent, in Business Administration, Economics or Engineering.
Proven skills in leadership in line with the company leadership principles and the company one philosophy.
Deep understanding of value creation business, finance and strategic ability.
Very good negotiation skills.
Excellent presentation, communication and negotiation skills both in English and Afrikaans language.
Industry knowledge of heavy steel will be advantage.
Willing to do extensive travelling of 50% to whole of Africa and South Africa.
