POSITION INFO:

Group Environmental Manager AA/EE role - Umhlanga, Durban - R1 000 000 - R1 200 000 per annum CTC

Reporting to the Group SHERQ Head, the successful incumbent will be responsible for holding the Group accountable to the highest environmental standards

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Bachelors’ degree in Environmental sciences or equivalent in engineering or scientific fields
• 5 years’ experience as an HOD/ HOS for SHERQ/ Risk Management
• Experience within the Sugar Industry or Agriculture Industry would be advantageous
• Experience in Environmental Management Systems
• Understanding of environmental requirements in African Markets would be advantageous
• Knowledge of environmental legal requirements
• Strong analytical skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the proven ability to verbalize ideas easily, build strong relationships,
• coach and influence
• Credibility and confidence to engage with and influence stakeholders at all levels
• Ability to work well within a team
• Willingness to travel into all areas of operation, within and outside South Africa

Key Responsibilities:

• Contributes to development of the medium and long term SHERQ strategy, as it pertains to the Environment
• Defines Environmental standards and process requirements
• Conducts regular internal and external benchmarking exercises to identify best practices in environmental management and sustainable development
• Ensures best practices and minimum standards/ processes are easily accessible and regularly updated on Illovo platforms (catering for HO and Country operations)
• Ensures the integration of Environmental standards into SHERQ management systems
• Contributes to technical reviews across the Group
• Inputs into processes, interventions and programmes to determine and address environmental risk across the Group (i.e.
• carbon emissions, air emissions, waste management, water / energy conservation, etc.)
• Investigates new technologies to improve Illovo’s Environmental Risk performance
• Creates and maintains internal and external communication structures for issue resolution relating to environmental impacts
• Engages with external stakeholders on environmental issues and ensures alignment of internal processes with legislation
• Ensures Environmental reporting systems promote accuracy and efficiency
• Promotes and adheres to Illovo SHERQ procedure, policy and guidelines
