HEAD OF RETAIL BUYING - CAPE TOWN

POSITION INFO:

Key responsibilities will include:

• Leading a team of Divisional Heads to deliver ongoing performance against top line and bottom-line growth targets across all product categories.
• Oversee the planning team to ensure continued improvements to all activities and methodology that support demand and capacity planning in conjunction with, forecasting, in stock and order management that aims to support the retail buying strategy while meeting supply chain requirements to deliver efficiency.
• Collaborate with central Supply Chain teams to ensure continuous optimization of the stock position in order to achieve full product availability whilst reducing cover days, minimizing mark downs and inventory write offs.
• Manage the full P&L for the Retail, set the annual budget and quarterly forecasts in collaboration and alignment with the company’s teams.
• Advance selection growth, including the identification of selection gaps, the prioritization of brand acquisitions, and the development of relationships with new, target suppliers
• Drive continuous product margin improvements throughout buying teams, by increasing intake margins, driving favourable product mix within and across product categories, optimising use of merchandising to drive full margin sales
• Establishes a competitive pricing strategy per Division that maximises margins whilst ensuring competitive market position per category.
• Contribute and collaborate with Head of New Business Development on all relevant new business ventures.
• Own Retail product roadmap and collaborate with the Retail product team and engineering team to prioritize development of new features and functionality to drive internal process automation and external supplier integration.
• Collaborate with Merchant Analytics team to analyse complex data to strategize profit growth opportunities for a brand/category and for specific supplier partners whilst applying best in class machine learning technologies.
• Team development with a commitment to training, succession planning and team motivation

 Qualifications and Experience:

• 7+ years’ experience in managing a large team in a high-performance environment ideally in retail/ecommerce environment and/or from a consulting, private equity, or corporate strategy background
• 5+ years managerial experience
• Bachelor’s degree required (Preferable post-graduate degree in business)
• Experience in building, managing, and developing teams
• Strong competency in analytical tools
