HVAC Technician
POSITION INFO:
HVAC TECHNICIAN – Red Seal Trade Tested Refrigeration - JHB
The HVAC Technician is primarily responsible for the service, maintain and repair of air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment. The HVAC Technician may also be responsible to oversee a small site or team on projects for a designated period in order to obtain relevant skills and experience as a subject matter expert as the job requirements.
Minimum requirements :
❑ Minimum 3 – 5 years industry / service experience in related field
❑ Commercial refrigeration experience
❑ Experience and/or exposure to: • Freezer rooms/cold rooms package units | • Ice machines chilled water systems | • Display chillers | • Various spit unit installations
❑ Adherence to SLA and contractual terms of service.
❑ 3 – 5 years Supervising staff | ❑ Ability to work independently
❑ Experience working according to SLA’s and contractual Terms of Service. Qualifications
❑ Red Seal Commercial Refrigeration Trade Certificate | ❑ Safe Handling Practitioner Certificate
❑ Valid Driver Licence Knowledge | ❑ HVAC Refrigeration Skills – Sound Understanding
❑ Mechanical – Basic knowledge of machines and tools.
❑ Repairing – Basic repairs and assisting with repairs as per the task list.
❑ Equipment Maintenance - Performing routine maintenance on equipment as per the task list. Skills / Qualities

Key Responsibilities
The HVAC Technician will be responsible for carrying out the following task / activities:
❑ Tests and/or troubleshoots a variety of items dependent on specific trade expertise.
❑ Handle confidential and non-routine information;
❑ Coordinates with process centre for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently;
❑ Inspects facilities, systems and their components for the purpose of ensuring safety (e.g. OSHA) and cleanliness, and identifying necessary repairs;
❑ Installs a variety of items and/or system components frequently or of a complex nature for the purpose of maintaining the client in a safe, comfortable and operating condition;
❑ Maintains tools and/or equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition;
❑ Performs a variety of facility and equipment repair and maintenance activities within areas of trade expertise
❑ Prepares and maintains a variety of documentation (e.g., work orders, repair records, purchase orders, requisitions) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information;
❑ Tests and/or troubleshoots a variety of items dependent on specific trade expertise for the purpose
of assessing item functioning and recommending repair or replacement;
❑ Be available to work extended hours and weekends on an as needed basis;
❑ Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
❑ Builds and maintains a work atmosphere of trust and respect by establishing open communication among team members;

Overall Scope Of Technical / Operational Responsibilities
Oversight and management of the following key areas:
Client liaison and Administration
❑ Customer Liaison regarding requirements, quality of work, and completion of work.
o Complete technical service records for client signature
o Check with client regarding requirements, satisfaction and quality of work done.
o Record client requests.
o Submit requests to Administrative offices.
❑ Complete and submit technical service records as per company standards
o Ensure that all required technical documentation is available.
o On or during completion, complete Log sheets.
o Submit to manager on completion
❑ Accurate administration of company documentation, e.g. time sheets, vehicle records, etc.
❑ Communication with the Group helpdesk to provide accurate feedback.
Adherence to health and safety standards
❑ Responsible for safe working practices, own safety and that of colleagues
❑ Use equipment in line with safety practices
❑ Comply with all applicable standards, policies and procedures, including safety procedures and the maintenance of a clean work area
Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving safety concerns and taking appropriate actions to maintain the overall educational environment;
Performing Maintenance, Repair and Day to day activities
❑ Maintenance / Servicing of Equipment
o Conduct checks and testing | o Strip equipment (if required by contract).
o Replace and/or repair parts as per stipulated contract.
o Re-assemble equipment | o Test equipment after service.
❑ Repair of equipment and control system | o Conduct checks and testing.
o Strip equipment (if required by contract) | o Replace and/or repair parts as per stipulated contract.
o Re-assemble equipment | o Test equipment after repair
Repair or replace defective equipment, components or wiring.
o Test pipe or tubing joints and connections for leaks with soap-and-water solution.
o Perform preventive and general maintenance procedures such as cleaning, oiling parts, and changing filters.
o Install and replace and re-assemble components to heating-cooling equipment, such as valves, air ducts, pipes, blowers, dampers following prescriptions.
o Test heating-cooling equipment after service.
