POSITION INFO:

Main Purpose:

  • Manage and direct a team of financial business partners. 
  • The team will provide support to the business, both, from a technical as well as operational perspective. 
  • They assist the finance department in achieving its overall objectives of supporting the business, and reporting on its performance. They take overall accountability for the financial reporting, financial controls, policies and procedures of their respectively assigned areas. These areas include Residual Debt Services (RDS). Business support actively influences day-to-day decisions, shaping strategy and the underlying direction of the business. They focus on forward-looking, large scale and/or high-impact commercial and investment decisions. They will also support effective financial planning within their area of responsibility.
  • They will facilitate change by working alongside business leaders, influencing and shaping financial plans, and advising on future direction and investment choices. 
  • They will be responsible for managing both their internal and Finance external stakeholders , also help to deliver effective financial management, control and advisory support for their divisional business. They require an ability to manage commercial and financial risks.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A qualified Chartered Accountant
  • 10 years managerial and suitable experience, preferably in a financial institution.
  • 8 years leadership experience.
  • Performance Management Skills
  • Problem solving & Report writing skills
  • Sound and current accounting knowledge and familiarity with IFRS
  • Budgeting and financial modelling skills

Key Performance Areas:

Financial management and control
1. Contribute towards the formulation and implementation of strategic initiatives for the various business units within the bank.
2. Preparation of relevant management reports in the required format for distribution to business units. Reporting includes, inter alia: Management reporting (financial pack) inclusive of Opex (actuals, forecast, budget), Capex and Procurement components; Financial tracking of projects and business cases
3. Preparation of annual budgets and forecasts for the allocated business units (in the required format) for discussion, review and refinement with the responsible EXCO member. Track, monitor and engage with business, both at an executive and an operational level to implement corrective action as and when required.
4. Interact with and support business, both at an executive and an operational level, on projects, business cases and other finance-related requirements. Assist in achieving the companies operating cost budget in allocated business areas; by actively engaging business with regard to cost management. Monitor internal financial controls in allocated business units, and take corrective action where required.
5. Gain a complete and detailed understanding of policies, procedures & controls for your area of responsibility and ensure that they are being properly adhered to.

Procurement
1. Assist business units in managing their electronic procurement management system, controlling their procurement expenditure, and reporting on it.
2. Ensure that procurement policies and procedures are adhered to by the allocated business units.
3. Provide guidance to business in relation to their understanding of the Procurement policy i.e. how to comply with the requirements contained therein.

Financial reporting
1. Preparation of monthly management accounts in required format for use in various reporting packs (including but not limited to EXCO and Board reporting packs).
2. Preparation and maintenance of project accounting and budgeting

Budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling and building of business cases
1. Preparation of budgets and forecasts, building of business cases and financial models, both for individual business units, as well as for the bank as a whole.
2. Produce and analyse the annual budget and 3-year plan for Board sign-off.
3. Produce and analyse a quarterly re-forecast for the purposes of managing the profitability as well as strategic glide path of the Company.
4. Produce and analyse stress testing scenarios for inclusion in the Company’s Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP) submission to the SARB.
5. Produce and analyse stress testing scenarios for inclusion in the bank’s Recovery Planning submission to the SARB.
6. Produce proposals and manage strategic insights regarding potentially viable partnerships between the bank and other prospective entities.
7. Assist with business cases and potential valuations to enable the Company expanding its client base and / or product range.

People Management
1. Manage and develop subordinate(s): Performance management in terms of contracting, reviews and poor performers; Training and development; Employee relations
2. Manage people efficiencies through leave management, headcount budget, fixed term contracts, staff movements, secondments, staff utilization
3. Take appropriate disciplinary measures as required
4. Facilitate induction of new staff within one month of joining the organization.

Managing Stakeholder Relationships
1. Create and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders/clients by providing professional and appropriate advice and assistance.
2. Keep the stakeholder/ client informed about progress through written communication, telephone communications and/or face to face meetings.
3. Build a positive image by exceeding stakeholder/client expectations at all times.
4. Treat internal and external customers fairly at all times.
