Head of Agronomy

SUMMARY:

A well-established manufacturer of plant and animal nutrition is seeking a well-experienced Agronomist to focus on developing and promoting better farming practices, compiling fertiliser recommendations and supporting agents in the field.

POSITION INFO:

Minimum requirements for the role:

• Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Soil Science or related field
• Must have a BASOS/FERTASA certification and be SACNASP registered
• At least 15 years’ experience as an Agronomist will be required
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel
• Up to date knowledge of industry trends, technology and developments are essential
• Good sales and presentation skills will be preferred

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Compiling fertilizer recommendations for farmers requirements.
• Studying plants and soil to develop better planting, cultivation, and harvesting techniques, with the aim to improve crop yield and solve problems facing the agriculture industry.
• Researching, developing and promoting farming practices or products that diminish the effects of changes in soil, climate, and weather.
• Assisting in Product registration for the technical team.
• Visiting fields to scout for nutritional deficiencies, diseases, or other changes.
• Keeping detailed records regarding fields, customers, crops, and samples.
• Generating reports and presenting findings to management, clients, or other interested parties.
• Promoting products and techniques through educational presentations.
• Actively involved in the marketing of all product ranges, gathering marketing material and compiling product/crop booklets to distribute as marketing material.
• Managing product trails to gather information for registration and sales purposes.
• Liaising with manufactures regarding the import of products.
• Extensive travelling to provide support to Business Unit Managers and Agents.

Salary package is highly negotiable depending on experience gained.
