Head of Business Intelligence

SUMMARY:
A financial advisory firm that offers a full suite of advisory services in Health, Wellness, Insurance and Investment for private companies is looking for a Head of Business Intelligence to join the team.

Duties:

• IAS 19 post-employment healthcare liability valuations for large employers and the management thereof
• Advice and implementation of reduction strategies around post-employment healthcare liabilities including pensioner road shows
• Strategic healthcare market reviews including scheme comparisons as well as benchmarking exercises
• Alignment of actuarial reporting with published ASSA Guidance Notes and other regulatory requirements
• Ad hoc projects including employee benefits consulting queries and, on the job, troubleshooting
• Involvement with risk management systems and processes of benefit providers
• New business sales tools e.g - scheme performance to demonstrate ongoing strategic management advisory function and medical scheme evaluation
• Healthcare consulting models e.g - pricing and the ability to present management information reports in respect of cost & benefit comparisons with market alternatives
• Responsible for new business and growth of the actuarial portfolio, including tenders and renewals
• Delivery of specialized healthcare consulting models and tools including other technical input
• Mentoring junior staff on actuarial healthcare, employee benefits and related matters
• Managing a team of actuarial analysts coordinating timely delivery of scheme reviews etc.
• Establish and maintain sound working relationships with product administrators and consultants
• Management responsibility for all actuarial recruitment
• Develop and maintain digital consulting platform, which also act as a customer relationship

• Matric (Grade 12); 
• Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematical Statistics, Commerce, Economics or Computer Science
• Fully qualified actuary (FIA/FFA/FASSA/AMASSA)
• Completed the First Level Regulatory Examination as a Representative and/or Key Individual in Categories I, II, IIA, III and IV

• 6/9 years actuarial or related work experience, preferably in employee benefits (healthcare and/or retirement fund consulting
• An excellent knowledge and understanding of the South African employee benefits industry
• Good understanding of the medical scheme and retirement fund legislation
• Full broker (intermediary) accreditation with the Council for Medical Schemes
• Experience in Agile software development methodology working with Object Oriented Languages such as Python and Java
• Experience working on cloud environments (such as Google Cloud and AWS) and related services
• Exposure to relational databases (SQL, MySQL, Postgres, etc.)
• Advanced R programming skills
• Experience in data transformation, preferably within a health-related field.
