Head of Legal

SUMMARY:
An excellent opportunity for a highly qualified Legal Executive to join a very innovative and highly relevant black owned business operating in the energy space. The business is transforming South Africa''s energy landscape with cleaner and cheaper energy alternatives.

POSITION INFO:

Based in Johannesburg and reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Head of Legal will be a strong legal professional who has specialist legal subject skills in commercial law and regulatory matters pertaining to the energy/oil & gas sectrors.

Key Skills/Competencies/Qualfications required:

• A relevant tertiary qualification, with post graduate qualifications and service of articles of clerkship
• Skilled in Negotiation, Legal Management, Risk and Regulatory management, Contract Management, Litigation and Joint Ventures and will provide legal counsel in respect of energy and power transactions including the development of power projects in oil & gas and multi-faceted models such as Limited Recourse and Leveraged Finance, PPP, Concessions and Public Procurement.
• Experience of working on oil and gas infrastructure deal structuring and other legal matters and M&A transactions will be highly advantageous
• Drafting, negotiating and reviewing Structured and Project Finance documents, as well as Banking and Finance-related documents and agreements
• 10 years’ experience in practicing law in, ideally, the oil and gas / petrochemical sector or exposure to the legal function in respect of Engineering environments relating to power projects
• The last 5 years’ experience must have been in a Head of Legal function role in a business with a turnover in excess of R500 million, or at Director / Partner level in a law firm, with specialisation in energy/oil & gas/petrochemical/industrial management or other relevant specialisation.
