SUMMARY:
Health and Safety Manager – Open Cast Mining
We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Health and Safety Manager to lead the HSE function at our open cast mining operations based in Mpumalanga. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing health, safety, and environmental (HSE) strategies, ensuring full compliance with statutory requirements, and embedding a culture of safety across the site.

POSITION INFO:

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and manage the mine’s health, safety, and environmental management systems.
• Ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act, OHS Act, and environmental legislation.
• Lead risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
• Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to HSE teams, supervisors, and line managers.
• Compile and present monthly and annual safety performance reports to senior management.
• Oversee training programs, inductions, and awareness campaigns to promote a strong safety culture.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities, contractors, and external stakeholders on HSE matters.
• Drive continuous improvement in safety standards, systems, and processes.
• Develop and monitor the HSE budget and ensure cost-effective implementation of safety programs.

Requirements:

• Degree/National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Mining Engineering, or related field.
• SAMTRAC or equivalent advanced HSE qualification.
• Valid SACPCMP Certification
• Minimum 8–10 years’ experience in Health & Safety within mining, with at least 5 years in a management role (open cast experience preferred).
• Strong understanding of mining safety legislation, risk management, and emergency response.
• Proven leadership and people management experience.
• Valid driver’s license.
